Default Seeking Info on Multiroom Stereo Setup

This is probably a long shot... but does anyone have good info on designing a multiroom stereo system with in-wall or ceiling mounted speakers? The stuff I have found on the web is just a little thin so far. Any actual experiences with gear or links to reviews would be great. Thanks!

Default ...a bit off topic?!

mkell:
Here's a link to excellent speaker manufacturer with scientific advice for home theater sound, including in-wall speakers & tons of links to reviews:

Found info very useful when I was researching. Good luck.

Another thing to do is to pick up a few custom audio/video magazines. Browse through them and bookmark or tear out pages that have particular components or design elements that interest you. Take these to a few custom audio/video shops in your area and ask them for advice. Most of them should either offer in-house services of this type, or have an agreement with a few reputable installers. The pages that you bring them should help them to guage how complex of an install you are talking about. If you plan to do the install yourself, they can still help you pick the right components and offer suggestions to acheive the desired results.

Thanks to both of you. I have seen the glowing reviews on the paradigms - I have not heard them yet. I know they have in-walls that are high quality. The website is cool.

I have also been going through the magazines and oogling at the equipment. But I have not really found many sources - like reviews and case studies of multi-room set-ups with a mid-level and high-level system discussed. Just about everything is on surround sound for video.

I'm looking for stereo that will be provided to 4-5 rooms on the main floor in a new house. I get the impression that the custom installers focus on the truly high-end setups. I need good quality in the living room and fair quality in the other rooms. I did get a quote on wiring the house for speakers, room controls, phone, data, cable - $3/ft and $100/hour. I keep hunting for stuff on multirooms. Thanks again for the posts.

Tim - Thanks much for the info. It's a great forum over there. I've checked it out several times before today. Really though, it is mostly beyond me. So OK do I get laughed out of the board if I ask about inwalls over there?

I have not heard Paradigms for a long time. The reviews are really impressive though. And a number of posts and reviews really praise them. Truth be told, I am not all that discerning when it comes to audio, I want a good sounding system for a good price and don't want to become all that knowledgeable about stereo stuff. I just don't have the time. It's like wine - give me that good stuff for a decent price - I don't need to know more. Thanks for the info.
