Well it seemed a simple idea, plug in a monitor switch on and bingo....
I've been running a Viewsonic 17inch through a nvidia card and tried to add an NEC via the motherboard output. And got no display, no sense that windows can even see the sedond display let alone install any requisite software..... Is it something to do with the Nvidia card disabling something? Suggestions on how to fix this. I now run two monitors at work thanks to the gnomes in our computer dept so it must be possible... |

so if I understand you right you have 2 different cards? an NVidia card and onboard video driver?
Are you running XP? and what do you see when you look at your monitors control panel? does your system see 2 displays or just one? |

One MB output and one nvidia card
It only sees the monitor attached to the Nvidia card win xp Have followed MS instructions but until it can see the other monitor... I suspect that I may have to ge a different card..... |

I have never had any luck with different video cards, all of my developers at work use dual flat panels, but we use dual output cards. I know these cards have bridge timing controlers in them for refresh sync etc output. Even though MS claims they support multiple monitor output, I know there are issues at the driver level that the OS needs to support that factor into it as well. I have seen some really nice dual output cards for a reasonable price, Dells outlet carries them most of the time.
