Default wireless routers phone interference?

A recent power surge killed off our cordless phones at home. It was an exciting night when a transformer blew up on our street.

Old phones were 5.8 as I was sensitive to interference with the 2.4 linksys router. Thinking about getting the motorola cordless phones which will allow us to charge our cell phones as well but work on the 2.4 frequency not 5.8.

Whats you experience running two 2.4 systems in a house? Works ok or bad idea?

I went from 900 mhz to 5.8 Ghz to avoid any problem. I can tell you that I have a Bluetooth headset for my cell phone that's 2.4 Ghz, and it's a little crackly here in the house near any computer.

I've got a wireless router, 5.8, 2.4, and 900 cordless phones. Have not noticed any interference except that my download speed drops when the microwave oven is on.

I've had mixed results with wireless networks. When I lived with my dad, he threw a fit about my 2.4 cordless phone because he has a laptop hooked up to his computer wirelessly. We never had any problems, though now that I think about it I suppose it was because the phone never rang (it was on a different line).

Now, we have a wireless network here and my computer is the wireless one. The same exact phone would kick it off constantly (and it got old really quick). I switched the Linksys router to channel 11, and I can't recall having the phone cause a problem since. However, the computer will just fall off the network several times a day for a minute or so at a time with no obvious reason why. It gives me an excuse to play Spider Solitaire

Is it an older Linksys router? They were notorious for this problem a few years ago. Is it running the latest firmware?

I had the same problem with an older Linksys g router that I eventually traced to a neighbor with a Netgear Super G router. The chipsets would interfere with each other and the result would be that the Linksys got bumped off-line. This was a known issue and the only option was to switch to Netgear or convince the neighbor to convert to Linksys. Since the Netgear was faster I switched and haven't had a problem since. I don't know if the current chipsets interfere with each other or not.

most often the issue with competing wireless devices is they are utilizing the same channel. The new devices (i.e Belkin Pre-N) dont have this issue as much because they will automatically monitor the channel activity and switch to a less utilized channel.

It's actually only a few months old, and both the card and router are the same flavor Linksys. I've been pretty unhappy with Linksys this time around so the next time I need wireless stuff they're off the list.

We had a wireless router, baby monitor, and a couple of 2.4 cordless phones. One phone was fine, the other had horrible reception, regardless of monitor, router, or microwave

I just bought a 5.8 Uniden, and it has great sound.

Remember, always have a corded phone in the house, just in case the power goes out!

Very happy with a Netgear Mimo G router. It is 2.4GHZ and does battle with my 2.4 phones. Sometimes the router looses, sometimes the phone...
I just keep the phone away from the router and use a wired phone near the computer. I also have people tell me that my cell phone is breaking up when I am near the Netgear router, but they come through fine.

I will eventually go to different cordless phones, but no rush here.

Good advice if you have POTS. If you have VOIP, when it's out, it's out, usually.

And if your cable co supplies your TV/internet and phone when they go down as comcast does every so often EVERYTHING goes down. Leaving you with just cell phone for connection to the outside world....
