I switched from Palm to the x50v and it's true that Palm's operating system is much more intuitive and simpler to use but also less powerful if you're interested in doing more exciting things. PocketPC is getting more seamless but if your syncing multiple computers expect occasional problems. Expect lots more soft resets, but it's very nice to have dual expansion slots (CF & SD), dual wireless (WiFi & BT) and a VGA screen. I wouldn't consider going back to Palm until they can compete in these areas.

I am interested in Dell x50V. Why do you need to reset the PDA every week?

Have an Axim x5 and my wife has an x50...no weekly resets here...Love 'em both. We plug a GPS receiver in them and use Pocket Streets for simple locating, etc...We've been looking at Travroute due to it's reputation, but it's pretty expensive.

Another vote here for the Dell X50v. Love that gorgeous high-res VGA screen and the relatively low price compared to competing VGA PDAs.

reset is not a big deal on the pocket pc systems...just like restrting your PC

Sounds like the Dell x50 or x50v may be the way to go. Advantages of one over the other? Thanks

Axim X50V has a speedy Intel Xscale processor w/ 128 MB flash rom compare to 64MB for the X50.

BTW, you also will get a coupon for free upgrade to Windows Mobile 5.0 when available in the fall.

Use this coupon(PKFZBW2Q?V3F33) good until 6/28/2005 for $60.00 off any electronics & accessories worth $500.00 or more before taxes and shipping. Since the Axim is less than $500.00 before taxes and shipping, you need to order additional accessory in order to use the discount coupon.

Thanks! I've been checking them out this morning at Dell's website. They have an "Axim of the Week" package deal where you can get the x50v for 30% off, free shipping, plus a spare battery, USB cable (additional cable??? not clear on that but it looks that way), 2 year warranty (instead of 1 year) and the Windows Mobile 5.0 Upgrade CD when its released.(October '05?) ... all for $418.

How's that deal sound to you guys??? No mention on when the deal expires... Dell likes to change them very frequently.

The coupon PKFZBW2Q?V3F33 did not work. But $418 is a good price.

You are correct, the coupon is not valid for Axim purchase. Thanks for correcting my mistake.

Slight joke maybe, but I probably reset my x50v at least once a week, but then again I'm using a lot of WiFi and BT and highly extravagant ultra high end power user extremely technologically advanced 007 gadgetry that defy the capabilities of mere mortals to comprehend. Even so, I'd say a soft reset on a PPC is less bothersome than rebooting a PC since it doesn't take nearly as long. I use a soft reset to fix minor glitches that you may not even be aware of, eg, sometimes everything seems to be working fine but the "notes" section of a contact appears blank when I know there should directions or something there--soft reset and the note is there again.
