Default AMD vs. Intel

I'm looking for the performance differences between an AMD Athlon 64 3300+ and a P-4 2.8 to 3.0GHz.

WHile not specifically not knowing the speed difference inthe chips, I wnat to let you know that the motherboard and it's chipset make the most difference. Make sure you get a good quality chipset ont hose boards. For the AMD NVIDA chipset, for the intel intel chipset 925/915. Doesn't really matter who makes the board, but insist on a good maker of the chipset, it makes all the difference in the world.

The first 3 tasks you can do with a 6 year old Celeron. The last takes just a bit more.

I agree w/ N_Jay about Dell. Besides, Dell uses Intel motherboards for their system.

amd64 is 64 bit processor and intel is 32 bit . technically 64 bit will be faster . But a 64 bit running 32 bit OS like windows , will be as good as 32 bit processor . Infact 64 bit will lag on 32 bit applications . if i am not wrong microsoft is still working on 64 bit windows. Future is with 64 bit , but presently there are very few applications written keeping in mind 64 bit OS and 64 bit processors . It all depends what you want from the machine , for regular emails , pictures , video editing , any 2.8 ghz 32 bit processor is a very good choice . There is no straigh answer to this questions

Sorry I assumed your going to build your own.

Buy the Dell, when you shop for the right deals at Fatwallet, you can get them cheaper then those AMD's at the price club, Sams or wal-mart.

Their service when you need them isn't the greeatest. But it's good that you rarely need them.

All computer company service sucks.

That's because;
99% of the time, it's the USERS fault,
and
99% of the time it's Microsoft's fault,
and
99% of the time it's the application's fault,
and
99% of the time it's the hardware driver's fault,
BUT,
Less than 1% of the time, its the hardware's fault.

Of course the hardware vendor is who you call first!

The AMD64 3300+, although the actual clock speed is slower, operates the same speed as an Intel P4 3.3GHz.

When looking at the price difference between an AMD equipped PC versus an equivalent Intel PC, the AMD will more than likely win on price.

The AMD processor will run most applications faster than an equivalent Intel processor, and have lower heat generation.

I just purchased a PC with the same AMD processor. It was $300 less than a 3.3GHz Intel P-4

For my money, AMD is the better processor.
