I wonder if this is a result of the server crash. I thought this thread went around already.

I'd love to get GT4, however I'm going to wait the 3 months to get it when it hits the greatest hits library. Maybe that or blockbuster for a few days, I got a free game coupon somewhere.

Yes this thread was lost in the server crash.

People have been waiting a long time for this game to come out. Should be one of the quickest to reach the Greatest Hit mark.

Default PANAMA!

Woo-hoo! I hadn't bought a game in about 6 months so I felt no remorse when I ponied-up the $50 and got the game on Wednesday. The opening movie is just great! The game has plenty of new cars and tracks, which was my only complaint with GT3 (it was kind of a better looking remake of GT2). Anyway, I love this game. You can transfer game data from GT3 to start with A&B licenses and transfer $100K as well...so you don't have to start with a Miata or Civic and take days to build it up. I got the Mercedes 2.5-16 (one of the greatest looking DTM cars ever) and built it up enough to win a few race series (and a very nice M3GTR to boot). So it's gonna be a great weekend starting in about 9 hours.

Here's a 'hint' I just read on another website:

Start with the 2nd "series" Costa do Amalfi (Easy) race. Just finish both races which aren’t too hard. The entry price is only 5K per race and you win a 256K prize car. You can even do it over and over.

Will try tonight.

Cheers!

Oh man, that opening is incredible! The beginning "church" music leading up to Van Halen cranking over the home theater... my wife...

Me...

Sure was nice being able to skip the A&B license tests. I used my 100k to buy one of the used Skylines and fix it up. After playing around in the Beginner Hall to warm up, do some winning & buying, I took the Skyline to the Japanese Hall to win the Nissan Concept LM Race Car. Sweet.

Ran out of money so fast spending like crazy, I had to take the LM, swap the tires and re-do the series just so I could win it again to sell it. Picked up 7.5k per race, 35k for series and ~350k selling the 2nd LM! Not too bad for one series, and with the LM... easy way to pick up cash when needed.

This game is incredibly deep. Tons of halls... Beginner, Pro, Extreme, Countries, Manufacturers...

Cannot wait to get home...

Thanks for the tip, could you post the site where you found that?

Regards!

? re: GT4

can you play the game without going through all the races and building and buying? My biggest ***** about the previous versions is that you cannot bypass the archtecture of the "rising star". I want to jam this game on arcade mode with access to all the cars/tracks without burning 20 hours of screen time.

"Cheats" are taboo to true gamers, but really, I can't find the time to play through this game for hours and hours on end. Is there anyway around it?

p.s. I'll end up buying GT4 soon anyway.

It's somewhere in this thread from the S2000 forum I frequent:

http://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php...ic=270667&st=0

I used to goto a GT3 forum for all sorts of hints and tips, but it's been a while and I don't recall the name. Anyone else have a good GT forum? Cheers.

Hey Ratso, Yes it is very time consuming to go thru all the unlock stages. But for some, that's all the fun. To be honest, I don't race the arcade portion very much unless my kids want to race two player. I haven't even looked at the GT4 arcade section! But if it's anything like GT3, and no doubt they stayed true to form, and only let you race unlocked cars and use unlocked tracks.

I'll try it later on tonight and see what's unlocked.

Thanks, most of the GT4 forums I have found seem to reference the earlier released Japanese version of the game when it comes to what cars you can win in what race. Hard to find any here at work and when I get home... it's race time.

I'll be sure to post them as I find them though!

Excellent! Have fun!

PS: Do you have HDTV? If so are you using the 480p or the 1080i setting on GT4? I've used both and so far they look pretty much the same...although they should look different.

No HDTV for me... yet. I have a Sony Wega, and seeing GT4 on it is awesome.

The only negative, display wise, is that the game seems to get sort of blurry or choppy at times. Tried it on my Sony and older Zenith that the kids use, same thing. Doesn't happen all the time, or during game play, just when menus appear over the race display.

Has anyone visited the Honda dealer on GT4? You can buy an Element, Ody.... but no Pilot! Bummer. Would have been fun to fix up a Pilot... racing chip, suspension, enging mods... nitrous!

Haven't noticed the blurriness, but I've only played a handfull of times over the last few evenings. This weekend I will lookout for the blur.

Yeah, I hate when it seems they have every car from a manufacturer EXCEPT the one I have in real life and would want in the game. For instance, they have many BMWs but not either of mine, and lots of Hondas but not the Pilot. I can get the Scion xA but the wheels are different...so I got some VW wheels that look pretty close. The one car that comes closest is the S2000 but I can't upgrade to the exact Volk wheels I have, so I got some that come pretty close. Oh well.

I like your taste in cars! The 2.5-16, a later development of the original Cosworth engined 2.3-16 was never imported to the US. The 2.3-16 was, but only for two years - 1986 and 1987. The Evo2, which is the car in the game, was a homologation special. 502 cars each were built of the Evo1 and Evo2 street cars, with 500 being black and supposedly 2 of each were made in Silver, but kept by the factory.

Here's a pic of the DTM Evo2 from the game (not the street car):

And here's my real car. The factory body kit wasn't as wild on the 2.3-16 as on the Evo2, but for the street it still gets a lot of looks:

I know what you mean, those EVOs got way outta control. I 'upgraded' to the M3 Sport Evolution adjustable front and rear spoilers, and also changed the mirrors, wheels, suspension, etc. I've left the motor pretty stock...no 2.5 for me...yet. Cheers.
