Question How many Pilots are pilots?

Another quick poll...

How many Pilot owners are pilots themselves? If so, what do you fly, and how often?

(I'm a Marine currently assigned to a ground tour, so ANY flying ANYONE is doing now is a lot more than what I'm getting! I'm hoping to get my ATP sometime next year, and dream of owning a Mooney someday...)

As the name implies, I'm just a glider pilot. And haven't been up yet this year, so we're in the same boat.

I know we have several pilots who own Pilots on this board -- I can't remember their usernames off the top of my head, though. I think one worked for Boeing...

I can make paper airplanes and fly those -- does that count???

I once played around with Flight Simulator until I could take off from College Park Airport and crash into the South Lawn of the White House. (Art imitating life, as they say.)

Dexter Wright also flies...

...I've communicated with him via e-mail and he once wrote: "I live up in the northern Calif mountain area, just out of Redding Calif. So use of the airplane for work or pleasure is necessary for quick transportation."

I know Voo-Doo is a pilot--and a really cool guy. He and I go way back...

Kemo, your paper airplane time counts! The short duration of the flights makes it hard to keep track in your log-book, though!

How about piloting your own body? I used to skydive, does that count? :-)

Always liked this quote:
If riding in an airplane is flying, then riding in a boat is
swimming. If you want to experience the element, get out of the vehicle.

I think it counts, Devin. Personally, I don't have any desire to "jump out of a perfectly good airplane!" Besides, I'm generally scared of heights, so you got me there!

As an aside, Navy personnel that pilot LCAC's (Landing Craft, Air Cushion) log flight time. (Albeit in ground effect, but flying none-the-less!) If they can, why not you?!?

Just a private pilot, with just enough hours in Cessna 152's and 172's to be dangerous. Love flying but it's pretty expensive for us ordinary folk.
Haven't gone up this year yet.... Hope to find some time and money this summer, till then its only MS Flight Sim 2002 hours (the Cessna 172 is amazingly realistic, can't comment on the others).

I'm with you there--I haven't flown this year either. The prices at the local FBO are a bit steep, and I have been neglecting to find an FAA-cert'd doc. Besides, I'm still flying MS FS '98, so I'm way behind!

I'm with you too, Pilot4jen&mook. I need to get my physical as well, came due in the fall but I was a bit too busy.

Seems we're both behind the latest MS Flight Sim 2004. I found the C-172 simulation very good in 2002. Went so far as to buy a yoke and rudder pedals. Other than the rough air, the wind/engine noise, the feeling of climbing/descending, trying to figure out the radio/intercom buttons, and listening to real traffic/tower talk, I found the sim to be very close to flying a real C-172. A whole lot cheaper too...

Many happy landings....

Funny, that's the only reason I bought the Pilot! I fly C-5s in the USAF and the navigators in our Squadron always try to make some silly correlation about (Honda) Pilots and the (Lincoln) Aviator being smaller/less powerful than the Lincoln Navigator...
