Question Will the Cubs fold on schedule?

I have learned not to invest any time or emotion into the baseball races until the last weekend, especially with the Chicago Cubs.

Can they make the playoffs?

on paper they should....

3 against the reds --> red are a minor league team right now (should sweep them). and 3 against pirates ...

whereas huston has to still play 2 agains SF and 4 against milwaukee....

....however this is the cubs so should not be too hopeful...if they do where do we build the Dusty shrine??

Default Who cares?

I'm a born-and-raised Northsider, but I've always been a White Sox fan! With the PaleHose out of contention, I can now turn my attention to da BEARS!

Hope they whip up on the Cheeseheads this coming Monday night!

NOTHING is better than beating the Pack!

GO CUBS!!! Huge fane of the cubbies. I'm sure they won't let us down this year. I really hope they make the playoffs. Chances look good as of now against reds....

Default Pitching Ace

One guy the Cubs have that ANY MLB team would want is, (no, it's not Fat Sammy) is Mark Prior. Watching this guy pitch this year has been a real treat. If he stays healthy, Cub fans will finally forget the other pitching stud they once had and let go ... Greg Maddox.

I guess I'm pulling for the Cubs, afterall.

I was 14 in 69. Talk about a let down. Stupid Mets came out of nowhere.

In 84 Leon Durham booted the ball at 1st base during game 5 against San Diego. Up 2 games to none and couldn't even win 1 of 3 on the road.

I hope they at least get into the playoffs for a change.

They will make the playoffs, and get past the 1st round. There is not any pitching staff that can match the starters in a short series. The relievers are another story though. As long as they get some run production, they should do OK.

An outstanding performance. I read this morning the Wood is set to pitch either the reg. season finale or the playoff opener. His ERA is something like 0.58 over his last 3 starts!!!!

Default Gutsy call

Talk-radio types are questioning Dusty's decision to start Shawn Estes today. But Baker's future is secure. Not like the manager on the Southside of town.

He gone!

I am not sure I feel confident with Estes starting today either, but I would rather see him start against the Reds then against the Pirates.

Did anybody else hear Frank DeFord (from Sports Illustrated) on NPR this morning explaining the curse of the billy goat?

Great explanation of why the Cubs can never win! At least until the curse is broken.

Some people think sports is boring but surely they are not aware of the spiritual and occult dimensions that govern the game of baseball!

So did I when I first heard it but wat is the option...you want to keep kerry and mark for the final games if they are important....

so who do you go with Estes or cruise ? guess he went with the left hander....if estes blows up cruise will do the long relief IMO...

magic number is 5

Default Totem pole

The billy goat story is only one such myth attributed to the Cubbies woes.

Another less-famous story has to do with the totem pole that is located on Chicago's lakefront at Addison Avenue, the same street Wrigley Field is located. The myth states that according to Indian lore, this type of totem pole must face the east, but Chicago's park district erected the pole facing west, the direction of Wrigley Field.

More bad karma.

We Chicagoans are an imaginative bunch!
