Default Cake I made

OK, I'm a dude, but I decorated this cake for my son's first birthday. I'm good with my hands and this is better than dropping $50 at some bakery. This is only the prototype. My wife baked it, I decorated. The final will look much better than this (hopefully). Should feed about 40-50 people.

I'm fully willing and actually kind of looking forward to the jabs of unmanlyness that may occur!!!!

Its tradition that i bake my sonds cake every year for his birthday. Lat year was a firetruck, year before was a 5 car train.... Nothing NON-MANLEY about it.. this year I am doing a HOT DOG cake.

Your kid will love it

Good job!

My son's first birthday was a couple months ago. Wife baked the cake and I decorated it, as she feels I am more artistic . It was a tigger cake.

OK, Now I don't feel so unmanly!!
Thanks for the compliments! I'll post pictures of the REAL cake. We used a piece of cardstock and cut out the lines for the face, then sprinkled powdered sugar on the cake which we outline with icing.

Great looking cake......and Jay's picture reminded me of my best friend's grandson's first birthday. They strapped him in his highchair, plopped a cake in front of him and he went at it with both hands. There was cake everywhere. We laughted so much watching him our sides hurt and tears came to our eyes.

How about putting something in the picture to show the scale. Just how big is that cake? I think it looks great.

The face is a 9" cake.
The body was made from a 13 X 9 cake.
The ears were these little I guess 5 inch cakes.
I'm getting my wife to email me the picture of the "production" cake today.
Everyone at his party complimented the cake and were amazed that I had made it.

I did a Thomas the Tank Engine cake for my older boy's 3rd birthday. It turned out great, but I had to use a ton of food coloring in the frosting to get the right blue.

You could tell who had cake at the party because it stained everyone's lips blue

Ha! That rocks. You do have to use a lot of food coloring - I used almost a whole little bottle of red for Mickey's shorts and it still looked a little pink.

Funny story - one time I ate some cake and some kid's party and the next day or day after I thought I had blood in my stool - I freaked out till my wife reminded me that I had eaten the nicely tinted frosting the day before. I know it is kinda gross, but still!!
