I replaced a '91 Isuzu Trooper w/ 5 speed manual transmission. My criteria were similar to yours, with #3 being the hardest to find a good compromise. I have three dogs all >50 lbs and a baby on the way, so I need a good amount of space. But I wanted the best fuel economy I could find. The baby, however, put safety up to the top of my list. I wanted AWD because I do a good amount of fishing in the N. Georgia mountains. I haven't had the chance to test it up there yet, but it sure performed well during a gully-washer last week. So far I'm very happy with my decision.
