Does anyone know how hard it is to install the day/night mirror? How long does it take? Do you have to run any additional wires or is there a connection point already in the overhead somehwere?

Here are the instructions. There were some people interested in a group buy in this thread, but I don't think they had enough people. You might want to PM or e-mail the interested parties and get their attention back to the group buy.

- Popping off the side of dash trim - a little less than intuitive. - visor base trim doesn't pop off the most obvious way. - The plastic clip for the footwell trim can use a regular screwdriver. - Getting cable ties up behind the headliner is easier if you have small hands, or are good at working blind. - Getting the 10 pin connector clip apart to insert the green wire is a bit funky; be carefull not to break the connector . Got the mirror at Mag Auto (http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...subcategoryid=) for $177 plus shipping (don't have mirror breakout, as I got running boards on same purchase). |

I really would like to get in the group buy, but it'd mean that I'd have to install it, which is the part that's scaring me. I've never installed anything at all on car. I don't even know how to do an oil change even if I had the right equipment.
Have you had experience in electronics or parts installations on cars prior to installing this mirror? |

I've had considerable prior experience on various cars, doing all sorts of things up to and including pulling and rebuilding engines, but this was the first time I've taken apart the Pilot. FWIW, I've also installed the running boards, cargo cover, and the rear mud flaps (much easier if you pop the wheel off). Still on my agenda are the tow package and perhaps the CD changer, as funds permit.
Mostly, it was a matter of following the directions and paying attention to the diagrams on how the clips were arranged. For example, the door bottom trim around the fuel filler door has 2 clips, and the easiest way to pop it is to slip a small screwdriver at the rear and disengage the tab; after that, it comes right up. The side piece comes off fairly easily once you disengage the clip at the bottom of the piece. The wiring harness comes apart fairly easily once you figure out how to release the top of the retainer. Again, the job isn't that hard if you can read and follow directions and take your time. A good sense of visualization is helpful too. However, if you feel intimidated, or haven't even done simple stuff like oil changes, it may be better to farm the work out. I don't have a flat rate manual available, but I doubt the job rates more than an hour. So, if you have a mechanic you trust, bring the mirror and instructions, and he should be able to get the work done fairly quickly. Really, this kind of an install is 'gravy work' for a tech; quite easy if you're the least bit competent. |

Installed mine back in Feb. and I had a few problem.
First, it didn't work after the installation then I returned it and got a new one. I realized later as I remembered that it was my two years old boy took it out of the box and threw that mirror at me and landed on the floor but nothing broke. After the second installation, the SRS came on permanently. The only thing I remembered I did wrong was that I forgot to disconnect the battery first before I connecting the wire harnesses. Took it to the dealer and they fixed it under warranty. The receipt indicates that the problem was a buckled wire. I don't see how any wire could be buckled since I didn't wire tied any of other wire beside the mirror wiring harness. Installation process was easy but now I am having problem with vibration when I turn up the music. Does anybody know any fix to the mirror vibration? Would it help if I could line around the clip area with neoprene?
