Lightbulb Resale Value

In my new vehicle search, I have been checking out used vehicles, as well as new ones. I thought this was VERY interesting....

2003 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer-loaded: new $38,000, used $26,000
2003 Honda Pilot EX-L: new $31,000, used $27,500!

Honda had 11K and the Explorer had 8K!

I cruised by one of the local stealerships this morning to check out what Pilot stock they had, and the gray interior vs. saddle interior, and they had a '03 EX-L with 11K on it sitting in the used row. The sales dude said they had one a few weeks ago, and it wasn't on the lot 2 days. I thought about it, but I really want those heated seats in the '04. Want the sunroof in the '05, too, but the ol' Exploder can't wait that long. Like my wife said, if we want, we can sell the Pilot next year and actually get something for the trade-in value!

Saw a '03 Pilot at the local dealer with $27,999 plastered on the windshield.

Don't forget though...the Ford dealer probably had to essentially drop his pants on the dealer profit and use the benefit of a massive factory rebate to even sell that Exploder in the first place.

No argument on the fact that the Pilot holds its value (wonder what ours will be worth in say 2006 or so ), but its also painfully clear that neither the Ford is worth its MSRP when new, nor has a particularly good ability to hold value.

16,000 miles 2 years after I bought it, and I just sold it privately for $27,000.

Very impressive.

that's extremely impressive...

we got $15,500 for the CRV when we traded it in, 3.5 years, and 33,000 miles after we paid $23,500 for it...

No, the Accord will probably come in about 2 weeks. I'm still trying to decide between the green, blue and graphite.

I was very active on this board from May 2002 to Dec 2002, and just popping in here and there since then. I've had a lot of fun here.
