Question Cargo / Luggage Capacity

Can someone please explain the following numbers from Edmunds.com comparisons?

Pilot vs. Ford Explorer

Max Cargo Capacity:
Pilot: 90 cu. ft
Explorer: 82 cu. ft

Max Luggage Capacity:
Pilot: 16.3 cu. ft
Explorer: 44.5 cu. ft

Where did Ford find all this extra luggage space?

Did they include standard crossbars on the luggage rack to stow stuff on the roof?

The Pilot specs vs. the Explorer come out on top in nearly every category except this one (HUGE difference).

What's UP? :|:

Thanks,
Dean

the numbers could be faulty. maybe they are using explorer numbers with the third seat down and pilot numbers with the 3rd seat up. just a guess. critter

I believe pilot critter hit the nail on the head, the Found On Roadside Dead (FORD), does not have a third row seat.

The Fix Or Repair Daily Exploder has a third row seat as an option, and then they provide a rebate that covers the cost of the option (so it's free, sorta). But with the Exploder third row option, you can't get a cargo cover, whereas the Pilot you can get a cargo cover, and it works behind the second and third row (ingenious).
