Default Type of Gear Shift

I been looking at the gear shift of the PILOT and I noticed that it had the "minivan" style one. Now, my question is (PILOT OWNERS) Do you think that this is a inconvience? Would you prefer the standard center console gear shift?

I sense a pattern here....and smell a...hey, why don't you keep asking away your questions in the very first thread you posted in here? I don't see a point in you starting new threads everytime you find something to criticize/fault about the Pilot, which look as though there will be many of them.

Also, use the search feature. You would've found answers to your "questions" already, starting with your very first post about the Touareg. Had you used it, you would've found an excellent comparison note from someone who owned a Pilot and is now driving a Touareg.

Somehow, I don't think minivans were around back in the 50's and 60's when this type of gearshift was prevalent.

I have nothing else to add to these "baiting" posts that you keep placing out here.

Useful discussion is great, this is not...........

I love where the lever is, it gives ample of storage in the center console area that would have been wasted otherwise.

I don't mind the column shift lever, as it allows for a more functional center console with storage room. My only beef is that I cannot shift into the lowest 2 settings without it interfeering with my right knee! If I get into a driving situation where the all wheel drive is necessary, it's going to be mighty uncomfortable.

Not terribly tall, 6'1, and about 250lbs. With the seat all the way back, I have to really work to get the shifter all the way into low gear and still be able to work the gas peddle.

Prior to buying the Pilot, which fits me quite well other than the above issue, I used to drive my wife's '01 CR-V on weekends. That was a bit cramped, and was the main reason we sold it and bought the Pilot.

Actually, I found the extra room in the console that the column mounted shift lever gives to be A GOOD THING. Plus, the spilled drinks won't wonk up the works (like they would with a console-mounted shifter).

Sometimes, being different really IS being better... And going with the herd is simply being full of bovine by-products.

While I liked the column shifter, I did think it was a herd thing. After all, the Explorer, the sales leader for quite some time, has a column-mounted shifter.

IMO, a center console shifter only makes sense with a manual transmission, because the linkage is simpler and tighter. With an automatic transmission, I think people only prefer it because it's aesthetically more "sporty", but it has no practical functional advantage. Put it on the column, get it out of the way, and make room in the console for "stuff". I'm at least 6'2" and yes, the shifter hits my knee in the lowest position. But I use it so seldom, and it only hits my knee when I first shift. Once I start moving, it's not a problem.

I wish they'd put it on the dash like the CR-V!
