Default Touareg

How would the Touareg comapre to the PILOT:
As I could see, the interiors of the PILOT are horrible and the Navi screen seems to be aftermarket like and leaves much to be desired and NO MOONROOF!

and dont say, price, 3rd row(a 3rd row with that little legroom should not be considired a row).

Somehow I think nothing positive is going to come from this thread, but I'll bite anyway since I'm bored.

1. Price
2. 3rd row
3. Best OEM nav system (Honda/Acura/Alpine) bar none
4. Reliability

I'll let others fill out the balance of the list.

I would agree with the Worm... this is probably yet another troll thread (could not tell by the user name), but

'don't say price".... if you are independently wealthly and price is not a concern then congratulations...just go for the Cayenne (I see more of them in my neck of the words than the VW). Most of us bought Pilots for price, so you are beginning a comaprison without addressing one of the Pilot's major attributes.

"3rd row" issue: hey it's still there, and while we have only used it once, it turns into a heck of a lot of cargo room when it is stowed. If you are going to be critical of third row seats, go beat up the Highlander with its "after thought" third seat, if that is what floats your boat

"horrible interior": that is merely your opinion and you are welcome to it, if I had cared enough to look at the VW, perhaps I could comment on the interior (maybe just not in a way that provokes a "fight"... constructive criticism is always the most welcome form of criticism as it fosters debate rather than a war

Enjoy the VW, though, people buy cars for many personal reasons, and at least one former Pilot owner traded for a VW for the tax savings. Just don't be that guy that has to overly militant about trashing anything else that is in the same segment. Given the fact that there is absolutely nothing constructive in your comments, nor anything that really supports you assertions, I do hope that this is not the typical fashion in which you engage in a discussion in which you have strong opinions.

Well, there is a very extensive thread comparing the touareg to the Pilot here.

Or, you could check out

this thread where PILOTinginCO describes his reasons for trading.

Do you know that the 2nd row now adjusts for 2004? At the expense of 2nd row legroom which is very generous, the 3rd row legroom can be increased.

The Touareg is a luxury SUV with a great 4WD system. Not really in the same class as the PILOT.

Regardless, the PILOT is still a great value from a company with a great history.

Can't we all just get along. Guess not. Toureg is a great looking car and the Pilot is a practical looking car. Some people value looks some people value functionality. To each his/her own.

Perfect example of someone who enjoys both sides of the coin, JAY.

Default Here's My Take...

As the former owner of a PILOT (which I loved dearly) and a current owner of a TOUAREG.... I don't think you can fairly put the two vehicles into a "comparo" box.

The PILOT and TOUAREG serve two different purposes. Sure, they are both "SUVs" but that's about as far as it goes.

PILOT is a Honda, which has a bulletproof record of reliability and customer loyalty. PILOT has a ton of interior space which is perfect for those families that would usually buy a minivan, but can't live with the minivan stigma.

The TOUAREG is a luxury SUV with real off-road abilities. VW designed that into the vehicle from the get-go. The PILOT does fine as a "soft-off-roader" but I wouldn't take it down any trails that present even the slightest of challenges. Reasons for that... ground clearance and lack of under carriage protection.

The TOUAREG on the other hand, in base form, has more ground clearance, mechanicals underneath the car are tucked up high and there is protection as well. Plus it has a LOW range for getting out of trouble.

The PILOT is a "fan-freakin' tastic" automobile.... no one will ever get me to say anything bad about it (except the stupid ass tire pkg Honda puts on it from the factory).

The TOUAREG is a great vehicle, but there have been a few problems with it, mainly associated with it being a new from the ground up vehicle. Those problems will be taken care of over time.

I would give the PILOT and the TOUAREG both 9's on a scale of 1-to-10.

And, just for good measure, here's a picture of my TOUAREG!
