Default Pilot Tops in NHTSA Crash Testing

The Honda Pilot got a perfect five star rating in the government's DOT NHTSA crash testing program in the '03 and '04 models. The crash testing included front, side and rollover resistance ratings.

Pilot have a very slight edge over the MDX. Honda's good performance beat out most of the competition. It's good to know that Honda have a high priority in safety when designing their vehicles and it shows in the crash testing results.

Have they published the new rollover test ratings for the Pilot???

Previously, the 2003 Pilot got 4 out of 5 stars on the static rollover resistance rating, which was the best of any SUV or minivan. After the 2003 MDX was downgraded slightly, the Pilot was the only SUV to get all 5 stars on all 4 crash test ratings and a 4-star rollover resistance rating.

The new rollover ratings by the NHTSA will include a dynamic avoidance manuver factored into the older static rollover resistance calculations.

In the NHTSA website, when the 2004 SUV is selected, the Pilot don't have the rollover test posted yet. That is their most current info for consumers.

I'll keep an eye on it and if they post the rollover results, I will post it here.

Edited 6/07/2004

The 2004 Pilot received a 4 star rollover resistance rating from NHTSA. So far it's the best rating when the front and side ratings are combined.
