Nissan's non-stop product blitz continued with the 2004 Pathfinder Armada, the Japanese automaker's first full-size SUV. About the size of a Ford Expedition, the Armada goes on sale in October in seven- or eight-passenger configurations. Using the same rugged steel frame as the Titan pickup, the Pathfinder Armada also shares its 5.6-liter V-8 with more than 300 horsepower and 375 pound-feet of torque.
Nissan's class-leading claims include the Armada's ample rear legroom and 9,100-pound towing capacity. Second and third row seats fold flat. Standard gear includes electronic stability control, adjustable brake and accelerator pedals and side-curtain air bags for all three rows; a DVD navigation system and entertainment system are options.

I would suspect that this is Nissan's response to the Toyota Sequoia. I'd expect similar pricing with the luxury version topping out over $45k.

I think pathfinder is a good vehicle . I don't have any personal experiece of having pathfinder . But i think it's a good truck . The price of Armada shud be between 35k to 50k . And it has intelligent cruise ,something from infiniti pathfinder
, the fact i like is more leg room and DVD + Navi available . It sure going to be a drunken master of gas , with 300hp

The Armada will not be a competitor to our Pilots. The only thing these two vehicles have in common are three rows of seats. The Armada is a big, body on frame SUV, built off a truck platform, with a more truck-like ride. The Armada is a truck, our Pilots are minivans on steroids. Actual gas mileage will be around 13 city and 17 on the hwy. Price should be competitive with other big SUVs, $38K stripped to $50 fully loaded.

It doesn't exactly say that both will be offered in the same Armada vehicle... That quoted statement could also apply to the Pilot since a NAV and an RES are options, too...

Carmakers' Bright New Idea: Cars
By THE NEW YORK TIMES Amid spring weather that started off steamy, then plunged to a piercing chill, automakers descended on New York last week to plant the seeds for a new crop of cars, trucks and hybrids. During press previews at the New York auto show, which opened to the public Friday at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, car companies made a noteworthy shift back to conventional cars after years in which trucks and S.U.V.'s took center stage. Ford, in fact, declared 2004 — which under the industry's peculiar calendar has already begun — "the year of the car." Information about the show, which runs through next Sunday, is available at www.autoshowNY.com. The emphasis on cars at this year's show became evident early on, as Chrysler unveiled its 300C, a thinly disguised version of a model that goes into production next year. In a significant break with the recent past, this large sedan is driven by the rear wheels, not those in front, and has slab-sided styling that departs from the company's signature cab-forward look. The engine is a new Hemi V-8 projected to deliver about — can you guess? — 300 horsepower. Though a Chrysler 300 has historical precedent, Kia is breaking new ground with a large sedan, the Amanti. Conservatively styled and fully equipped, the Amanti aims to undercut the prices of cars like the Toyota Avalon and Buick LeSabre that are popular with empty-nesters and retirees. A dimensional upgrade also figured into Toyota's biggest news, though in this case the step is from subcompact to midsize for the Prius gasoline-electric hybrid. Toyota says the second-generation Prius will accelerate faster and be more economical, with fuel economy of about 55 miles per gallon. The company also rolled out a new made-in-America Solara coupe and hinted strongly that a convertible would follow. Ford is showing off its gasoline-electric powertrain, too, with a version of the Escape Hybrid S.U.V. that the public can buy next spring. Ford says it achieves acceleration on par with the conventional Escape's 201-horsepower V-6 engine, but achieves up to 40 m.p.g. with much lower emissions. Ford, which had previously disclosed plans for its Five Hundred sedan and Freestyle sport wagon, showed a rendering of a smaller midsize car, the Futura. Collectively, these three models will replace the aging Taurus as Ford's entries in the broad midsize swath of the market. The Futura uses the front-drive architecture of the Mazda6, though all-wheel-drive and hybrid versions are planned. General Motors used the New York show to introduce a wagon version of the Malibu called the Maxx, though executives, wary of scaring off young buyers, were careful to call this spinoff an "extended sedan." The Maxx's rear seat slides back and forth nearly 7 inches to make extra room for either cargo or passengers. A fixed skylight covers the rear of the cabin. Mitsubishi unveiled a bolder, more powerful 2004 version of its midsize Galant sedan, along with the Lancer Sportback, a wagon based on its compact sedan. Mitsubishi also gave its plushest model, the Australian-built Diamante, a face lift. Acura revealed the Concept TL, a strong hint of the wedge styling that will be worn by the next-generation TL sedan, due in the fall. The concept car is shorter and sportier than the current 3.2TL. After a lull in the convertible market, new softtops made a splash, including the Nissan 350Z Roadster and the next generations of the Saab 9-3 convertible and the Mercedes-Benz CLK Cabriolet. The 350Z Roadster has an automatic top that goes up or down in about 20 seconds; the CLK's softtop can be operated by remote control. Saab announced plans to build the 9-2, a performance-oriented all-wheel-drive model based on the Subaru Impreza. Produced through a venture between Saab's parent, G.M., and Subaru's parent, Fuji Heavy Industries of Japan, the 9-2 will come in two versions, both with five doors, using either a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine or a 2-liter turbo 4. Performance is a prevalent theme of the show. For the first time in North America, Porsche showed its 911 GT3, its most powerful car without a turbocharger. A 3.6-liter 6-cylinder produces 380 horsepower and races from a stop to 60 m.p.h. in 4.3 seconds. A rear wing helps to stabilize the GT3 at high speeds. G.M. showed the most powerful Cadillac ever, the CTS V-Series — the first in a line of high-performance cars that will compete with Mercedes-Benz's AMG line and BMW's M cars. The CTS-V is the first car from G.M.'s new Performance Division, an internal engineering group that will cater to enthusiasts, and it uses a 400-horsepower version of the Corvette's 5.7-liter V-8. Trucks and sport utilities, which make up half of light-vehicle sales, are hardly absent from the New York show. Ford's Mercury division showed a concept version of its 2005 Mariner sport utility, which is based on the Ford Escape but borrows some styling cues from the larger Mountaineer. Lincoln demonstrated its ability to match horsepower figures with the competition, showing a 385-horsepower concept S.U.V. called the Navigator K. Nissan unveiled its Pathfinder Armada, a full-size S.U.V. based on the Titan pickup, which was also shown for the first time as a four-door Crew Cab. The Armada goes on sale in the fall; the Titan follows. The show also features vehicles that fall between categories. The Lexus HPX sport wagon, for example, is a design study based on the GS 430 sport sedan with added all-wheel drive.
