Unhappy RES Vs Nav ?

Hello, What a great forum !!!
Can any of you who have researched Pilot Options guide me as to Whether to get an RES or a NAV system ? I want both but you can't get both OEM installed.... So which choice is better for after market RES or NAV ?
Also does anyone have the rear-veiw camera installed with NAV how do you like it.
Thanks in advance

Default RES vs NAV

IIRC, I was thinking the same thing when I bought my Pilot. After some research, I believe you can only get NAV as a factory option ( because of the in dash screen). However you can have the RES installed by the dealer. I think this is the same RES as the factory installed one. You now have a Pilot with both options. Of course, if you do not like the OEM stuff you can do aftermarket anyway you like.

Thumbs up

I've got the Nav and the Rear - View Camera ..... particularly like the capability to see what you are backing toward ... like a parking curb, bicycle, short pole, or a child. The camera is a great safety device......and well worth the price for the peace of mind. I would definitely go with both the Nav and Camera.

Honda only sells the Nav as a factory installed option, however you can get an after market Res installed without too much difficulty.

Also if you are thinking of having the rear view camera the navi is the way to go. Aftermarket navi is as good as the Honda system but the rear view camera would be a difficult option to add to an aftermarket system, plus when you get it installed by the dealer before delivery it is covered by your warrenty.

Take a look in the audio section or do a search, there are lots of different way to handle the navi and RES together in one Pilot.

We decided to go with the navi and camera option, but that is based on (and we have not received it yet so I can't give you a firsthand experience):
1. no kids so RES would only be used occasionally
2. we trailer a boat (hitching up with a camera will be a whole different world)
3. we liked the look of the factory navi and did not want to change the factory stereo or add a handheld navi mount to the dash of the Pilot.
4. we really wanted the dealer to install the camera and have the vehicle warrenty cover it.

If you can't find your way around an oval track then you probably need the Navi! Otherwise, I think it's good mostly for those who go around looking for specific houses as a part of their job.

I would go for the NAV first. There are many more third-party RES which integrate better into the Pilot than thrid party NAVs.

I went with the NAV and believe I made the right decision. At the appropriate time I'll add a RES.

I have Navi with rear view caemra . I don't need RES because i don't have children . And with maps my wife always tells me exits when i am already way ahead of them . So navi is the way to go . I had anoption of going with navi and RES from other vendors as well , and they will be lot cheaper . But i decided to go for Honda navi becasue i needed a rear view camera . It's a great help . Secondly the Navi from honda should be more precise with vehocle speed and location . GPS reciever in Honda monitors the speed of vehicle and let you know how much time it will take to reach destination . The reciever i think should be more accurate as compared to other GPS recievers . the cost of GPS reciever goes up as the accuracy increases . U can get GPS from 200 $ to 100k . Depending on how they calculate the location and what type of clock they use internally . Off course in 2000 $ i don't expecta atomic clock , but it's lot more accurate than cheaper GPS recievers .
For RES i needed a TV , which i think Honda is not having and After market TV DVD are lot cheaper than the honda . And delaers are ready to install them anytime . But not the Honda Navi . So simple i think if you want both go fo Navi and get RES intalled from dealer or some electronic shop like circuit city , there are lot of option from screan size to TV etc . And there no warranty getting void in installing after market DVD player .

lalit,

Do you have a picture of your Pilot, it is almost exactly what we ordered and we are still debating the fog lights, we can't decide if we like the way they look without the lower trim and I can't seem to find a picture of a Sage Pilot with the fog lights and without the lower trim. I also would like to see a picture of the camera mount on Sage, it should look the same as all of the others I have seen but I figured while I am asking...

lalit,
I just realized that you also have the lower trim. I should have read you signature more carefully

Thanks though!
