Default Pilot versus 2007 Santa Fe

I know, what the heck am I doing comparing an amazing Honda to a Hynundai, well if you check it out Hyundai is actually coming up in class with there next line of vehicles, and styling as we all know what the current santa fe looks like, YUCK >;(
Well the 2007 is changing all that, Sleek styling, 3 rows of airbags standard, active head restraints, 3 rows of seating, ESC (Electonic Stability Control) standard, and much, much more. I am starting to be a believer but need to see it in person to know. Anyways here is the website, check it out and see what you think www.allnewsantafe.com
Pilot and New Santa fe are now on the short list, never thought I would be interested in a Hyundai but with that Amazing warranty, plus all the standard saftey, etc, etc, it is hard not to at least take a look.
Let me know what you think

Well first off, let me just say that Honda has been flawlessly good to me since I got my first one at 4 years old (Honda 50) SO, I dont mess with a good thing because I can safely assume I wont be let down by anything Honda. I will always stick with Honda unless the world does a 180- I love their cars/trucks, all their bikes and even their generators and outboards!
\

That being said, I see where you're coming from on the Santa Fe. The price is easy to swallow, the warranty is good ~if they dont jerk around with coverage. (read all the fine print) and the looks are getting better. If I didnt have alot of $$ and wanted a new car instead of used, I would probably take a look.
That third row looks like a Prelude back seat: There for looks and emergencies!

I dunno, I guess I wouldn't knock a guy for going that route, but not for me.

new santa fe looks a lot nicer than it used to be.

From the picture, I can see the 3rd row seat is very very tight.
I would probably go with Suzuki grand vitara than Hynundai. At least Suzuki is Japanese make. just my personal preference.

One thing you need to keep in mind when buying a new vehicle is 'resale'.

Midwest reminded me of this:

Last year I was looking to buy a inexpensive 4 cylinder sedan with good MPG to use for commuting. I could either buy a good used car or a brand new Hyundai (the only new car I considered).
I spent $8000 on a Honda Civic with 80K instead of a brand new Hyundai for the same money with zero miles.

My final decider was this thought:

Do I feel like I will get 75k-100k trouble free miles out of the Honda?
Same question for the Hyundai.

Sadly (for Korea), I chose the Honda.

.......My civic is going on 100K now and Im doing the timing belt next week. I fully expect to take it over 150K before giving it to my nephew when he gets his license

Definately Check out the Suzukis if you go that route

But Hyundai has gotten accolades lately for it's tremendous jump in quality. The reliability history of the Santa Fe is much better than the Grand Vitara according to CR.

Looks like more of a cometitor to the RAV4 but I suppose that some may cross shop that with the Pilot.

Very true on both notes.

I do beleive Hyundai has come a long way, but they had a long way to come! Remember the poor people that bought the early models? They were simply crap.

At this time, I dont think they're crap anymore, in fact they may be on par ~ especially if you compare it to a Ford, but I just have a long good history with Honda

How many other SUVs do you see in that Hyundai?? It resembles a few other body lines out there already, that is why it looks so good. Kia did this with the Sorento, very similar to the 03 Lexus RX300, take a good look at one.

I look at it like this...there is always going to be a fake Rolex. It may look great, inexpensive and functional but it is still a fake! This is how I personally see Hyundai and Kia in the Automobile industry.

To be fair to the Koreans, Samsung is now becoming the new king in many areas of electronics. Their cell phones, flat panels, DVRs etc are all excellent quality and in some areas are killing the likes of the Japanese... ie. Sony. As long as Honda and Toyota dont give in to cutting corners their cars will be the benchmarks for years to come but competition is always good.

who would have ever thought that Mercedes Benz would be at the bottom of the quality pile... boy chrysler did a number on that name brand in short order.

True. There are something I will buy Korean, but something I won't. For example, Samsung's Cell phone is something I will never buy especially when it comes down to GSM phone. They don't even use GSM phone in Korea at all, but making all those GSM phones that might look nice, but never last. Samsung LCD and memory chips and TV are great though.

I switched from Motorola to Samsung about 5 years ago in the cell lines and have never looked back. I really like the build quality, sound and features. Similar to my experience with Mototorola just for a lot less money.
