Question 2005 vs 2006 Pilot

New guy here

I am going to purchase a Pilot - though I am not certain which model year to get. The dealer has a 4500 rebate on th 05 year, and only a 1500 on the '06.

Other than side-curtain airbags, what other differences are there between the 05 and the 06 (EX-L version)

Thanks!

For '06 the front end is redesigned. Rear tail lights are different. The tranny is smoother. The Navi screen is larger and software updated with voice activation (which works really nice). I think the leather is different as well...

A good friend of mine just went through this, He wanted the RES system as he will be adding a Garmin Navi to it. He took them both for a test drive on both highway and city streets and all in all didnt think the delta of a few grand was worth the difference so he bought an 05 EXL/RES, in SBP... exactly like mine

I like the looks of the 05, but the 06 is growing on me ea day, I prefer the solid red tail lights of the 05, but I think for a few grand, if you have kids the side air bags for the back are worth it alone.. but just my opinion.

Honda covers the changes pretty well on their web pages:

http://automobiles.honda.com/models/...odelName=Pilot

In addition to the styling updates, the big changes are the 2WD models (with VCM), VSA on all models (previously only on EX-L trim), and three-row side curtain airbags.

Other than low-cost financing, I haven't heard of any rebates or dealer incentives on the 06's. But they're being sold for invoice and below in many markets.

Default Rear Spoilers

The 06 spoiler is redesigned over the 05 as reported in some broshure but I don't see the difference, anyone? Thanks.

It's done - I bought a 2005 Honda Pilot EXL. I could have bought a Demo for 16k km on it for $2k less, but this one has 50km's on it and is charcoal grey - the color my wife wants.

More money than I wanted to spend ( lost $ trading in a 2006 Jetta Wagon TDI GLS - but when it's too small, it's too small.

While I would like the added safety feature of the side-curtain airbags, being higher up somewhat compensates for the lack of them in the 2005 model. I'm getting running-boards to help the sides absorb impact in case of a t-bone so that will also compensate.

I am now a proud (albeit broke) Pilot owner

Cheers!

Hi Honda7, I have posted the comparison photos from our Toronto Piloteers Meet in Dec of 2005. If you were there, you might have noticed them by yourself.

There are also some other minor changes, such as side markers, rear reflex lights, conversation mirror (which I added to my 05), color door handles, the interior lights are now in the center of the ceiling, the dashboard lights are now in blue, no more cassette player, etc.

I saw that but due to family gathering and could not go to the meet. I can tell the other differences but the rear spoiler. I should get a chance to park side by side and compare.

Check these two photos from the link above, the outer edges of 06 spoiler is no longer curved and are wider than 05 spoiler.

Thanks for the link. Very nice pictures, I don't know why I missed the pages. Now I see the difference between 05 and 06 spoilers. If you look directly from the back you may not be able to tell at a distance.

Did you guys meet at the Kennedy Commons? Looks like it.

Yes, it's in front of Mr. Greek at Kennedy and 401. We might arrange another meet some time soon, we already have 03, 04 and 05 Silver Pilots in our last meet, if you could join us, we will have all silver Pilots lineup from 03-06.

Hm.. do you have a pic of the conversation mirror and where you got it / how you did it? It does urk me that I can't see my kids w/o taking my eyes of the road for a moment - and I hate doing that!

..that might be the first accessory I install! :-)
