Default 2006 Rav4

Some discussion of the new, bigger RAV4 took place in the Pilot vs. 4Runner thread. The new RAV4 doesn't look as big in real life as the pictures and specs make it out to be. I saw it up close and personal yesterday, and don't like the new look.

The RAV4 still resembles a 2nd generation RAV, but the cuteness is gone. Here, it looks like a Tribeca butt grafted onto the RAV.

The new RAV4 is still a pretty narrow vehicle.

Not crazy about the new look. Looks like rear visability suffers quite a bit with the narrowing windows. Reminds me of the Nissan Armada look where it looks like two different vehicles are grafted together at the middle.

True, and the ones that are more powerful are generally a lot bigger/heavier. If you want a performance SUV and don't want to ante up to the big luxury utes with $60K price tags and absymal fuel economy, this thing is in a class by itself at the moment.

I tried to find one at a dealer while I was in the US over the holidays and was unsuccessful.

In six months or so, I will seriously consider this as an alternative to the Pilot.

That V6 with 4WD looks like a fantastic combiation. It will be faster, more ecnomical, and cheaper than the Pilot. My one gripe is that you can't get the leather package along with the third row seating.

I really need a commuter car that can occassionally pull kid-hauling duty, so I could get away with something smaller. I drove a brand new CR-V SE last week was not impressed. Too bad that the CR-V redesign doesn't come until next year.

The Pilot beats out the Highlander in terms of giving you more for your money. However, this new RAV4 looks pretty good to me. Have to wait to drive one to see for sure.

Like the power (0-60 in 7 secs ) and the fold flat 3rd row seat (like Sienna, when they are up, the well behind the 3rd rows has lots of space )

it's not bad imo. But Toyota really mess up the market for their highlander with new Rav4 I think.
