The new RAV4 is not as big as it looks and is still not as big as the Highlander. Word is that the next generation of the Highlander will be bigger yet again to further distinguish it from the new RAV4.

The base model with a V6 is $22.3k. The Limited 4WD is $25.8k. Load up the limited with leather, side curtain airbags, CD changer and heated seats and you are up to an MSRP of $29,855.

The thing with Toyota is that you have to purchase option packages. You can't simply pick and choose which options you want. Just to get it with comparable options as the Pilot, you have to pick the top package, which has an MSRP of $3,420.

What I think is odd is that you cannot "Build and Price" a RAV4 on Toyota's Chicago-area website (where I'm directed after entering in my zip code).

You can do it on Edmunds.com.

I think Toyota isn't showing the V6 on the Build & Price because it isn't actually available through dealers yet.

You're right, though. Toyota's pricing is really confusing because, in theory, they offer a lot of features that are individually selectable. However, in practice they are really packaged.

This makes it confusing as to what is really in which package in your region. Also, the base price is a lot different than your actual price as equipped.

Honda's price packages are much more simple.

I had a 2001 RAV4 (1st year of the makeover) and must say that the build quality was questionable. Several rattles near the dash, radio and doors that still were not corrected through the 05 model year. Radio is very poor. Road noise was terrible. The 4 banger was high revving but didnt seem to go anywhere. We unloaded it for an 05 Pilot and never looked back (until I saw this topic). Go here http://www.rav4world.com/ and click on forums and then 4.2 Faults and Fixes topics. Prepare youself for good reading.

The reason I bring this up is that I know the 06 is brand new but will Toyota address the issues if the 06 has problems? They didnt for the 01-05 years so it makes me wonder.

Some are saying Toyota is becoming too big and doesnt listen to the customer anymore because sales are so good. I was refused work for a TSB unless I paid for it. That was the last straw.

At close to 30,000 US, the new V6 RAV4 is pricey. At 27,000 for my 05 ex-L it was a no brainer.

I traded an '01 RAV4 after 8 months for an '01 Highlander because of all the issues you mention.
