The complaint I hear most often about the Pilot is that the middle seat does NOT fold Flat and Level.
I know that most Chevrolet SUV's seats fold Flat and Level. They do this by having the bottom of the seat pivot forward, then the seat folds down flat. The 2nd complaint is that the radio has a "AUX" button that does nothing! (this is even on 2006 Pilots with factory XM radio). |

Oh yes, the seat that must fold flat to haul the bundle of plywood or drywall from House Depot that might happen once in a vehicle's lifetime.
I can see where it may come in handy for bikes, and such. I never really thought about it. I thought about all the time I'd wasted in the waiting area of the dealership getting my Exploder fixed. As for the AUX

I think many need a "fold flat" fairly often. It seems to me that Honda could fix this by having the bottom of the seat flip forward. All in all the Pilot is great. Can it not be better? |

The complaint I hear most often about Chevy SUVs is they are overpriced, underpowered, gas-sucking pieces of pig $hit that nobody wants unless GM sells them for cost. But, at least the poor dumb bastard who buys one will get a middle seat that folds flat.

As for the seats, I agree with the above post...you will rarely NEED the seats to go flat. If you do, do yourself a favor and buy a truck.

If flat folding seats is the sole reason for NOT buying a Pilot, I think Honda did pretty well. I've hauled long items on rare instances and it really hasn't been a problem for me. The seat backs compress a little to make it flatter but it's not completely flat. I am very content with our Pilot. It does what I need it to do...carry up to eight in pretty good comfort, gets decent mileage, is available to carry large items on some occasions, is able to take the family to the snow, and it is reliable.

I've been shopping for awhile and the Pilot is my top pick SUV choice.
If I decide not to buy one, it won't have anything to do with the folding seats or AUX audio buting. It will be for two reasons: (1) Gas prices don't look like they will come back down anytime soon. (2) For the $30k invoice price of an EX-L... there are a lot of other really interesting options out there. For example, you can buy a low mileage 2-3 year old Mercedes or BMW wagon for under $30k. There are also some great choices from Acura, Honda, Toyota, Lexus for sedans that will drive like a dream. Heck... I could even buy a commuter car and a pretty nice truck. Dunno. |
