I think it's gone because of the server crash. I've been looking for it, too.

A disk crash on the server wiped out 3 weeks of posts, as discussed here and here.

Boy, it didn't take long for this newbie to get flamed! My apologies!

At least I'm glad to see you guys are reading this stuff and willing to provide info! So I'll re-post my question here for your input:

I apologize in advance if I'm repeating an age old question... I'm trying to decide whether or not to spend the extra $ for an MDX over the Pilot.

Obviously, these 2 vehicles aren't comparable in terms of luxury and price ranges, but they are essentially the same vehicle. The MDX is a little sportier and luxurious, but more expensive. The Pilot is more affordable and roomier. I know it all boils down to my personal preference of style and budget, but I'd be interested to hear what the rest of you have to say...

I've got options to lease the Pilot EX-L w/DVD at ~$100 per month LESS than the MDX Touring (no DVD/RES or NAV). Over the 36-month period, I'd be paying an extra $3600. (about 1/2 the price diff between invoice price of these models). In both cases, I'm getting the vehicles at Invoice.

In your opinion and experiences (maybe biased), do you guys think it's worth the extra $ to go with the MDX?

I know one of you previously posted their experience when they borrowed their parents or in-laws MDX for a week, and that thread was VERY informative.

I don't have kids, so the DVD isn't absolutely necessary, but a nice thing to have for road trips...

Anyone else have any words of wisdom?

BTW... I've also posted on Acuramdx.com to get their biased opinion as well!

Thanks!

Have you consider a Pilot EX-L Nav vs. MDX Touring?
BTW, just remember that MDX uses premium gas while the Pilot uses regular unleaded gas.

it just about the luxary...if you have the $$ and want the better finish go with the MDX. You will get the prode of a Acura...however will also have to pay for the 91 octane fuel...

is sound system important to you...acura has a better sound system...

make a pros and cons list for both and see what important to you...cannot go wrong with either

Hey - if you got the bucks and don't mind a bit smaller cargo area, go for it. You'll be happy.

That's what I did. I made a list of the differences between the LX, EX, EX-L, and MDX base, the prices, and the prices to upgrade a lower trim level to get a feature I wanted. Then I could decide if it was worth X dollars to go to the EX, Y to the EX-L, or Z to the MDX, knowing what differences I was getting with each. This was in 2004 so its not worth putting those up now, even if I could find them. In my case, I really didn't care to get leather, so being able to get a Pilot EX cheaper made the price gap big enough to go with it.

btw, why do you think you got flamed? There was some threaddrift, but no flame.

If you don't have kids, what factors have drawn you to the Pilot/MDX?

Just wondering, cause these seem to me to be family mobiles.

Sorry, I guess "flamed" was too strong of a word... I was just surprised to see so many replies stating more or less the same thing.

ANYWAY, I appreciate your replies! I mainly want the Pilot/MDX for the AWD feature (to go to Tahoe without issues). Also, I need more cargo space, since my other cars are a BMW 330i (with crappy trunk space and no folding seats) and a Miata (self-explanatory).

So cargo area is important, but either is an upgrade to what I've got.

Since I already have a sedan that I'm not giving up anytime soon, I wanted an SUV, to give me more flexibility on long trips (we have 3 dogs), and moving stuff around when need be. Maybe someday in the future, some kids will pop out, and then I'll definitely need a bigger car! Especially since I'm leasing, if one pops out in the next 3 years, at least I'll have a vehicle to handle all the extra crap I'm sure I'll be carrying around!

I've thought about the premium vs. regular fuel thing, and have been taking that into consideration, since that's one of those cost things not factored into the lease payments!

I guess I'll start formalizing my pro/con list... practicality vs. luxury.

But as some of you have stated, I've never met an owner who was unhappy with either vehicle!

I know how you feel. I previuosly owned an 2001 X5. I was so undecided between an 2001 MDX and X5. After I got the BMW, there's been too many "what if..." poped up in my mind. Well, I was really gonna get a 05 MDX this time but I think my wife will treat me like I do not exist forever....... So, you get the idea. I wish I could have a MDX but for me it is just a more expensive toy. I do not have kids or pets so far. Yours situation might be different. You can find a lot of info at edmunds.com or here. Do your homework, make a good choice and be happy with it.
