I listen to a lot of different kinds but since I play guitar I tend to listen to a lot of 80's rock and metal. Or the classical guitar solos.
I grew up near the bay area during the 80's so so my all time band is Tesla, Joe Satriani, Bon Jovi(lived in Jersey a couple of years) The benefits of being in the Marine Corps for So many years is you travel a lot and experience a bunch of different things. |

I am a semi-retired club rat so my tastes lean towards trance and techno music.

I listen to a wide variety of music (even had Beethoven and Guns & Roses in the car at the same time
), but classic rock is my clear favorite.

Om XM Radio, my default is 70s on 7, but I work in some 60s on 6, Bluegrass, Country, and R&B. If I'm running around on Sunday and the race has started, I'm listening to the rhythm of 800 horses on the NASCAR channel.
My "test album" for a new audio setup (well, it used to be an album) is Loggins and Messina's MotherLode. The mandolin (at least I think it's mandolin) work on that collection is great.

I enjoy a wide variety of music...about the only thing I haven't managed to develop a taste for is jazz.
Lately I've gotten into Celtic/American Traditional music (w/hammered dulcimer, Irish harp, fiddle, etc.) Local musicians such as Maggie Sansone and Sue Richards have helped increase the popularity of this kind of music, and I try to catch their concerts whenever I can. A dear friend of mine was a classical musician. Knowing him, and having sung in choral groups most of my life, have helped me appreciate classical music. But I've always liked pop music, too. Some of my all-time favorite songs/performers over the years include: Peter Gabriel - Sledgehammer Kool & the Gang - Celebration Simple Minds - Don't You Forget About Me Seal - Kiss from a Rose R.E.M. - Losing My Religion Yes - Roundabout INXS - Need You Tonite Stones - Sympathy for the Devil Enya - Orinoco Flow (Sail Away) Styx - Sail Away Beatles - Anything! Crosby, Stills, Nash (& Young) - Anything! I could go on and on......

I seriously like everything, from Peter Gabriel, Elliot Smith,Tori Amos, Oingo Boingo, They might be giants, to Santana and George Michael. Heck, there's even some Christian 3rd Day and Jars of Clay mixed in there. Sometimes a little Garth is okay. Then there's RipRock, who got me hooked on IZ's somewhere over the rainbow tune, thank you for that Rippy!
Does anyone have any good Piano music to recommend? I love strings too. Those two can move me to tears for no apparent reason, but don't know what's good to buy. So I like almost everything EXCEPT death metal and twanging country.

HM2...
Cool, I'm glad someone recognized them. Tourniquet has rapidly become one of my favorite bands since I discovered Crawl to China at a Christian bookstore. For those that don't know what we are talking about, Tourniquet is a hard metal band... I mostly like the newer stuff since CtC, but I have every CD and enjoy all of them. I even have their video biopsy on VHS. The 80s speed/pop metal sound in some of the early stuff is a little outside my "groove", but I like it all... Wondering what's up with a guitarist replacement, I'll have to check www.tourniquet.net to find out. Cheers, -Davedela |
