Default New Car smell

Has anybody lost the new car smell ?
( sounds like a stupid question but
the poll forum did say about anything
)

If yes, how long did it last ?
If you have not lost the new car smell
how long has it been and what are you
doing in the interior?

I'd like to keep the new car smell as long as I can.
I actually saw a non honda product in a honda dealership
which claims that it's smell is the same as a new
car. But the parts guy says that it wasn't any good
and just smelled weird.

Also how long have you had your pilot ?

We've had our Pilot for 'bout 8 months and the smell isn't so bad any more. We're probably smelling the normal smell of the leather now, which is fine. But I could not stand the Honda new car smell at first. I kept the windows open outside as much as possible for the first few weeks. It gave me a headache. I know most people like the new car smell, but I didn't like it at all. Would much rather smell the cows across the street.

Garrison Keillor's version of the Joni Mitchell song is on the radio right now: "I've looked at cows from both sides now ..."

I lost the ability to smell the new car smell, but my passengers would regularly comment that the car still smelled like new. I like a nice, clean interior, and make a point of not leaving half-filled coffee cups and other odor generators in the vehicle.

I don't know what it's like now, but a study a few years back determined that the new car smell, a result of the gases given off by the plastic, etc., contained high levels of carcinogens.

Wow, so our honda pilot new car smell may contain high levels
of carcinogens ?

Now I'm concerned since my wife is pregnant.

Not to worry, it only causes cancer in white rats. How far along are you? We're expecting our 2nd any day now.

I can understand the new car smell when you open a car door and get a whiff, but the Lexus is the first new car I've ever owned where the new car smell would permeate my garage overnight. As soon as I'd open the hallway door into the garage, the smell, very pleasant, would hit me.

Of course, when my sniffer is working properly, I smell a lot of stuff; I'd taken to wrapping bags of fertilizer in two trash bags, and could still smell the stuff.
