Default Only a HONDA, baby.

Never a new Big 3, but for a Honda we'll do it again:

This is my first new purchase personally. A few people that I know say to never buy a new car, but I think when you're smart, and buying a Honda, it makes more sense. Higher interest rates and high resale made a used one look less desirable. (No used ones to be found back in 1/03 anyway) Yes, the used approach works well if you want a superfast depreciating domestic and don't plan to keep it long. For the long haul, we bought new twice.
My husband bought his little Civic brand new 11 years ago from the same dealership, and we have no regrets, the miles she's lasted us have more than paid for the price of it. So we went for it again with the Pilot. Still no regrets. I owe 20K on her still, but plan to plunk down all my income tax returns on it, and pay it off early. Car payments suck!

Amen, 74PilotMom!

Back when we bought our first Honda Civic we originally thought we'd buy a one or two year old model. IF we could find one for sale, the price was so close to new that we decided to just buy new! $11K out the door. Seven years and 65K miles later we sold it for $6,800.

We bought the Pilot new for obvious reasons.............. And we're looking for 7 or 8 years of service from the Pilot and the CRV.

The most enjoyable years being those AFTER the car payments are done!!!!

Eerily similar. We paid 11K for ours too, 11 years ago, and can still sell it for about $3,000. (around here at least, lots of kids are all over these little hatchbacks)
I know cars are a STUPID investment with too many variables, but it is my money and want the most for it with the best return.
Come to think of it, we bought a brand new little Honda motorcycle for our then 6 year old too, so he's a new Honda owner. Starting him out right

Default First time buying new

This is the first vehicle I have bought brand new and I will never buy used again. The experience was so much more exciting. I shopped around for quite a while looking at all makes and models before I made the right choice. I also chose to deal only via the Internet which helped alot, better prices and no sales guy crap. I do have to admit that it was a hard decision for a while because GM and Ford were offering such amazing deals. I had a Ford dealer offering over 15K off a brand new Expedition, made me think twice about the Pilot. But in the end we knew what the right choice was and we couldn't be happier.
