Im old enough to have started life when car seats were vinyl and I truely don't see enough difference between vinyl and leather to pay the difference. That said, I have always preferred cloth to sit on, car or sofa. Now, I know I'm going against the grain on the current trend, just like, I still prefer Formica over granite, but then, its my butt. As for kids, I did'nt buy 30+k vehicles when the kids were small and I still didn't let them eat in the car. Out side at the Sonic is the perfect kid fast food...don't matter what they drop.

Cloth in car seats.
Leather is hot in summer and cold in winter. Heated seats are just a complication to fix a problem that needn't be. I can't imagine the complications of "cooled" seats. |

I hate leather. Cold in winter, sticky hot in summer. My mother got a Lexus, black leather, totally hate it. We do have kids, but we have a strict 'no messy food in the car' rule. Spill-proof drink bottles work well. Leather just can't take abrasion, too. I can stuff passenger side of the car with 2x4's with no detriment to the seats.
As far as RES goes, I found a pair of tablets to be a MUCH better solution. Rear seat used to be a warzone over what to watch.

My wife and I both prefer cloth, that's why we got the EX instead of the EX-L. Leather is too hot and sweaty in summer and too cold for Minnesota winters.

I love the way leather looks but hate sitting on it. I really wanted many of the features of the EXL (especially sun roof) but could not do the leather so went with EX. Another note on the fabric, I was actually surprised how easy it is to clean up, a little soapy damp cloth and everything comes right out...no matter how hard my two kids try
![]() I also wish that they offered heated seats on cloth. I believe that leather seats should be a stand alone option, the bundling of it with so many other features I actually want was a disappointment. |

I have leather in my '08. I love it. It looks good, love the heated seats, and I have 3 kids...enough said. My only complaint is on the drivers seat there is a small split in the seam on the side of it. Need to get it fixed before it spreads.

Cloth for me. My wife's 1995 Volvo 850 Turbo, she inherited it from me, has leather seats. It has a winter package (We lived in northern IL when we bought it.), which includes heated leather front seats, headlight washers/wipers, heated outside rear view mirrors and transmission winter mode (Lets you start off in 2nd gear.).
While I like the heated leather seats in the Volvo, I prefer cloth seats overall. In hot weather, which we have a bit of here in AZ, causes my legs to stick to the leather when I'm wearing shorts. The only thing I don't like about cloth seats is the static discharge when I exit the vehicle and touch the metal door when humidity is low; here in AZ we have low humidity much of the year. However, for overall comfort, I really do like cloth. The cloth seats in my 2012 EX 4WD are quite a bit different than the ones in my former SUV, a 1991 Ford Explorer. I am very happy with the fabric and texture of the Pilot's cloth seats. |

My first car was leather, my second was cloth and I missed the leather every day. Leather was an absolute must for my Pilot (or whatever vehicle I was to choose). For me it's the whole class look.
Also, heated seats were a feature I didn't care about until I started using them. Wow I love them! Summertime heat has never been an issue for me.

I have both an 05 EX (cloth) and a 12 EX-L (leather) Pilot.
Cloth (by FAR) for the win. Cloth is cooler in the summer and more comfortable in the winter. The leather, even though they're heated, take a long time to warm up when it's cold. |
