The only vehicle makes I would consider Honda/Acura & Toyota/Lexus. Honda really needs to make the Pilot look better before I would buy another. I'll pass over the current generation.

We have been test driving SUVs to replace our 05 Pilot. The 2012s have the most comfortable ride of the group but it is noticeably slower than the competition. So our next SUV may not be a Pilot. Honda needs an engine with more torque. Except for our radiator failing and mixing tranny/cooling fluids, it has been reliable for 145K miles. But my Chevy Truck has also been reliable for 100K miles.

Yes. I've owned 4 (2 civics, 1 accord, and a pilot). All four have been reliable high-quality vehicles. We also own an Acura that my husband loves.

I've owned numerous Honda vehicles and products and they've never let me down. I love everything about my 2012 Pilot. I'd never hesitate to buy another.

Maybe. Jeeps have treated me better.

2007 Pilot LX:
Replaced radiator with slow leak at 105,000 miles.
No trip computer.
Replaced timing belt, tensioner, and water pump.
Replaced brakes.
No MP3 or iPod connection. It does have a CD player (big whup).

2002 Jeep GC Laredo (brother now driving it at 150,000 miles):
Timing chain - not belt - still on original water pump
Replaced brakes.
Trip computer

2003 Jeep Liberty Sport 109,000 miles:
Replaced brakes.
Timing chain - not belt - still on original water pump
Replaced transmission control module ($350)

1996 Jeep Cherokee (nephew driving it at 215,000 miles):
Replace brakes a couple of times.
Timing chain - not belt - still on original water pump
Alternator replaced at 200,000 miles.

Bottom line is that over a high number of miles the Jeeps have required less maintenance. I also find it inexcusable that any 2007 (or later) vehicles costing over $12,000 would not come with MP3 or iPod connections as standard.

Tom 105k is normal maintenance for TB. It's well documented. Why so surprised? Chains stretch to allowing timing to go to pieces. While not an official maintenance item, its not a bad idea to replace it

Probably not. I think Honda builds solid cars these days, but they have become extremely conservative in their designs to the point where they're completely uninteresting and uninspiring. Honda has become a Japanese Buick.

Yup. Had my 2005 CR-V until my new Pilot. 125,000 miles and no problems. Brakes lasted until 105,000 with zero service.

Just got word today that my 2007 Subie Legacy with 74k needs a new head gasket. $1,400. Also had to replace the ac condenser at 30k. Various trim pieces and trunk lining have come loose or broken and this car has been well looked after. Very disappointed in it.

The Pilot is not as fun as the 4Runner I nearly bought but it gets better mileage and I know I can't go wrong. Not exciting but boy it's good and safe and comfy.

I did have a great 1998 Jeep Cherokee. Zero problems at 110k but did have some cheap trim wear poorly in it.

Yes, I would certainly purchase another Honda. We've owned 8 Hondas total and have been extremely satisfied with each one. This being said, I will still shop around when it comes time to purchase another vehicle; Honda, Toyota and Nissan will be on my short list of vehicle brands to consider.

Oh, I'm not surprised at the fact the timing belt needed replacement - it's normal for all vehicles that have timing belts, of which I've had several. I even replaced it a little before the MM told me to because the timing (sort of a pun) was convenient and I had a 15% off coupon on the service.

My point was that the Jeeps I've owned have all had lower maintenance costs. The Pilot, while it is nice, may not be worth the added maintenance costs in my mind. I do plan on keeping it until the mileage approaches 175,000 - 200,000 miles. That will be in about 3 years from now.

Drogers asked the question and I answered it. I don't have the loyalty to any one auto manufacturer that my father did. There are many good choices out there.
