Default Pilot 2005-2006 vibration at ~70mph - how many of you have this problem

I am thinking about bying a new 2006 Pilot, and just registered on this forum. After some research I found a lot of complaints about steering weel vibration on speeds of ~ 65-75 mph.

It would be interesting to know how many of 2005 and 2006 Pilot owners have this problem with their cars. If it exists only on relatively small percentage of all Pilots, I still would consider buying it, just will carefully test drive the particular one before buying - but if almost all cars have it - I think I'd better look at Pathfinders or other makes...

Please do not participate in this poll if you do not own a Pilot 2005-2006.

Having followed this board, and this problem for almost 4 years now, my take is that a relatively small percentage experiences the vibration. Interestingly, we've had a number of recent new members who found this board while researching the problem.

Then there's the aberration that you must take into account - people post on message boards about problems, not about perfectly fine running vehicles; though we do get into a spate of love-fest posts, rightly so, every now and then.

My '06 Pilot has been flawless at highway speeds. Factory Bridgestone Duelers.

My wife's '04 Pilot had vibration between 65-70 that disappeared when we installed Michelin LTX M/S tires are 1400 (fourteen hundred) miles. I drove it yesterday with 24800 miles and it was smooth as silk at speed. Factory tires were the Goodyear Integrities.

well, how do ppl have vibration consider it as vibration? I mean, I never consider my pilot has vibration at 70mph at all. But seeing more ppl asking about this, I am paying more attentions when I am driving over 70mph.

When I go 70mph, the steering wheel is as smooth as when I am driving at 30mph. But when I am driving over 80mph, I can usually feel a bit of feedback on the steering wheel that I thought it's normal from the road. Does that count as vibration at all?

I think you don't have the dreaded vibration from this description. Mine would occur at 73 mph, and only 73 mph, but 80 was smooth, and above 80 was scary.

Drove back to texas this weekend for the holiday. Many many 2 lane roads with no cars etc. Pilot saw speeds up to 105mph, and averaged around 90mpg. Silky smooth, and averaged over the whole trip 24mpg, even at speed.

If you have the wheels high speed balanced and the vib goes away, then it is not the same problem. Feedback from the road is normal - If you took your pilot on a perfectly smooth highway (just paved for example) and you still felt the vibration (after HS balancing), then you would have the problem.

Have only had it over 70mph twice, during initial test drive and one trip to the other side of the city. No vibrations with the stock Goodyears.

Exactly. I didn't want to vote. At 70-75 mph there is nothing on mine. Near 80, I do get a bit of vibration I guess but I might have noticed it only b/c I was looking for it. If I am not thinking about it, I tend to forgot it's there. My guess is that this is NOT what people are describing.

guess mine doesn't count as the problem one then. Thanks Jay/jl_ss.

But really, i was driving like 80~90mph yesterday on I5 and I was still impressed with how it runs at high speed like that compare to my old 97 CRV.

Thanks to everybody who replied in this thread, or participated in the poll. Based on thie results, I decided to take a small risk, and bought a Pilot this weekend. No vibration or other issues during 15 miles test drive on the highway. Hope the problem won't show up later...

Default vibs and hum at 30 and 50 mph

i ve just noticed humming and vibrations on steering wheel at 30 mph and 45 - 50 mph. at 70 mph its ok, pilot is quite, till you reach maximum speed 115 mph.
i dont know whats wrong why it comes only at this speed, but it should have to do with tires. i have gy integities.
or?, any idea?

For a while now, I "thought" I had some vibration at about 72MPH but wasn't sure because it was very subtle... I finally had a reason to bring my '06 Pilot in for a routine service and decided to mention it to the service writer. He noted my complaint and said they would check it out. They did and confirmed that I had the vibration... They tried wheel balancing to no avail and decided to swap all 4 wheels and tires out from a new Pilot they had in-stock and low and behold, the vibration is gone!!! Hope it's not just in my mind because initially I "thought" I had the vibration but wasn't sure if it was real or just my paranoia after reading of all those that has had this vibration. But after dealer confirmation, I guess I was not imagining it... At least it appears to be gone now!!! Or am I imagining that???

Default Has anybody's vibration gotten worse after going to the dealer?

Hi All

I am a new owner of a 2006 EX-L 4WD Pilot ...aboy 500 miles on it.

I was unaware of the vibration issue but after reading the posts in this forum I am now looking for it in mine and I do find it around 65 to 75 mph range.

I am wondering whether any your vibration got worse after the dealer did something to fix it (like wheel balancing, alignment etc.)

Also I am wondering what is the extent of vibration you guys are feeling ..is it just in the steering or the whole body along with noise etc?

I am just trying to gauge how much of the problem I have before I head to the dealer.

Your inputs are appreciated.

Default Love it!

Other then a freak issue with my tailgate not opening the first week of owning my '06 Pilot, I couldn't be happier. It's a smooth responsive, comfortable alternative to a mini van and is very capable hauling our 3 kids around town or the guys on a fishing trip!
