Krygny, that is a cute puppy!!Bet she'll be a great traveler. Our 2 greyhounds ride-sleep-behind the 2nd row when our son comes with us on our yearly NewOrleans to Flagstaff trip. When he doesn't they get everything behing the 1st row-except when I'm sleeping back there;then they try to edge me off the air mattress. They sleep the entire 26 hours-we stop about every 3 hours for walks, gas, food etc,so they get their exercise.
Sportymonk-beagles can and will dig like no other dog on earth. We bred beagles when I was a kid.We-I-ending up having to dig a trench under our chain link fence and placing cinderblocks in it.They tried, but never managed to dig thru cinderblock.I have had good luck stopping negative behavior with a shock collar(training collar). You can get one for about $55 off Ebay-plenty of range-4 shock levels+2 audible sounds.I wish there was such a thing 45 years ago.It would have saved me a lot of digging!Once they get the idea, you don't have to shock them-just having the collar is enough. The invisible fence(a shock collar that is activated by proximity) should work great also-.With the regular training collar you have to actually be there. Some of our Beagles were great climbers(of chain link fences) also. They would climb a chain link fence just like a human climbing a rockwall.Once they got to the top they would pearch with all fours on the top,and leap down. They are little Houdini's.Sweet dogs-good with kids, and great alarm dogs.No one will ever sneak in your house!!!!Luck.Charlie |

charlie, I know you're responding to sportymonk, but are you under the impression my new puppy is a beagle? I know she sort of resembles one in that pic but she's a Bernese Mountain Dog. Check out my gallery to see my former "owners" full-grown.

This is Molly. She is a 45 lb Mut we rescued from "The Hood". She is probably a mix of Sheperd, Pitbull and Chow. The back of the Pilot is all hers. She has a cargo tray and a separation net to keep her from jumping the seats. The nice thing about the separation net is you can put a back window all the way down for her and she can stick ehr head through the gap in the side of the net and get a face full of fresh air. It is also great because you can leave the windows all the way down and leave her in the car (for only a few minutes) if you have to run into a store or something. I use a caribeaner on the end of her leash to latch her to the back of the Pilot if I need to load something in the back.

I mispelled it. It's "caribinar".

Thanks for the photo, I wouldn't have known what it was spelled correctly.

This was our dog's first time in the back of our Pilot. It is a definite upgrade from his previous ride - a crate in the back of a pick-up.
I plan on picking up the cargo tray and a barrier to make his ride easier to manage and safer too. In the meantime, the backseat saver by Orvis has come in handy. We used the "saver" in my wife's Jetta when the dog was a puppy. Works like a charm. Just loop one side over the back of the 2nd row headrests and it covers the whole back area. We'll also be looking to purchase a Thule carrier for space.
