I had this done over 15,000 miles ago, and the clicking noise has not returned.

Both Honda corporate and the dealer refused to acknowledge this problem!

I'll show this to the dealer & see they deny it this time.

It's from Honda's list of bulletins directly from Honda....the Ody's are included. ALL the Honda dealers should have access to the same info. Sounds like your dealer is either misinformed or just being real jerks about it!

If you're not using the SAME terms for discribing the noise it's possible that they can't manage to look it up. If they can read though, just putting in "brakes" should pull up the bulletin!

If you still can't get them to acknowledge the problem, find a different dealer!

FYI: this clunk returns!...will honda RE-DO this TSB work?
My fix lasted only 8K or so. It hasn't returned as loud as before (yet)

the clunk went away after dealer did the fix.

This service advisor was honest, after I show him the TSB, he then show me a similar picture that's on the TSB. told me that what Honda sent them, it won't completely eliminate the clunking noise, he said.

also had the alternator replaced this time (indicator lights comes up intermittenly, while driving). replaced the brake fluid reservor sensor about 2 months after I bought the thing.

after the tech drive out the car, I was really spooked, they washed the car and gloss the tires. whatever made them do the extra things. was it the TSB?

I check out the NHTSA's site at http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov, which show 2 recalls and 153 TSBs for this model. Isn't that scarry!Wonder what other things are wrong with this vehicle.

You are misunderstanding the info on the NHTSA site....

First some things are repeated, as an example: their numbers 10008515 & 10008026 are both about the same complaint. The info they compiled from the manufacturer will have the date as part of the other number. The first above mentioned has the other number as 04129 the second 06142004, meaning June 14, 2004.

There's a difference between an "update", a "recall" & a "bulletin". An update means Honda found out they had an error in manufacturing & want it back to be fixed. A recall is usually a safety item. The bulletins are a dealer to dealer "we have found a consistant thing here, & this is how we have found to fix it". Generally a consumer irritant, such as noise issues. (Not always)

For the '03 Pilots they had updates on 1. the timing belt's tensioner, which can cause breakage & premature wear of the water pump. There were several "memo" like things before they figured it all out. As soon as they had an answer they shared the info. It was changed to a recall. The other recalls were the SRS reprogramming & the Transmission.

The '04's have 2 labeling issues. The weight on the door label & the label on one of the fuse boxes.

Forgive me if I am repeating what other's have already said, I know this has been addressed a few times.

By law the manufacturer has to turn in the info to NHTSA people, so the repeats are usually as they have more information.

As an example of how how this also works.... Honda's SRS (airbags) was well within specs. They discovered they can tweak it more & be timed even better. So they advised their customers to bring in their Pilots to have this done. There wasn't anything wrong with them, they simply found out a way to improve it more! This finding lead to a "recall" to get the Pilots in for the improvement. Most manufacturers have waited until people were suing them before making a change they knew about.

I'm not sure why you'd be "spooked" about having a couple of nice services done such as a wash.... many dealers do this as part of customer relations.

Get this. I live in Canada and had a problem with the clunk sound. Honda said they had nothing to report on this. I told them that in the States there is a TSB for it. I took it to the dealer and they did the shim kit that there "wasn't a TSB" for and charged me for a rear brake service as per Honda Canada. I called Honda and they said it was their policy that the customer had to pay for the $90 cleaning and only then would they install the shim kit. I talked to Honda after the ordeal and argued for 10 minutes on the point. My point was that it did it from 4000 K and on and was noted in my service records. They insisted that even at 4000K they would have required the brakes to be serviced before they would install the shim kit. That was even with a CS manager.

Wow Honda, way to go !!!!

Thanks for the info on the TSB. I went back and read the list carefully this time, I see what you're saying about the duplicate.

I was spooked, because the last time at the Dealer, they repeatly denied the clunking noise as a problem, labeling it as "normal wear and tear", so did Honda. Both of which recommeded that I pay for a brake job. I didn't even pay a cent this time.

At the same dealer, when I took my Accord in for service, which I pay $ for, they didn't wash the car, even after I ask them for one.

Also spooked about so many component failure

Smile Awesome!

I dropped off my car to get some work done, complained about the clunk and was told by the service person that all of them clunk and ignore it. I will take it back with a copy of the TSB and see what they say now!!!

These dealers are really irritating me. My wife called last week about getting the TSB done and the guy at the service department claimed to have no idea what she was talking about. She gave him the number and he went and looked it up. Are they just playing dumb and trying to get us to pay for brake jobs? Just another reason that I never bring my car to a dealer except for warranty work, but then my last 4 cars have been Hondas so dealer trips have been few and far between!

I had the clunk but my VIN fell out of the range specified in the TSB. I took my vehicle in anyway and requested that the service be performed IAW the TSB and they did it, no questions asked.
