Default Bad Gas Mileage on 2006 Pilot 4WD

I have a 2006 Pilot 4WD with under 600 miles. I'm averaging under 9 mpg in local driving, a little over half what it's rated. Has anyone else experiencing this, and if so what's was the result? Any suggestions. Thanks.

11-12 has been the low end of average. If you live in a hilly area and are regularly accelerating quickly, then I could see 9. Assuming you are not, I'd give it a few thousand miles to improve - if it didn't then I would ask the dealer to look at it. A search for gas mileage will reveal quite a few mpg threads.

Thanks. The area is flat. Honda said they could run tests after 1,000 miles so I'm waiting until then. FrankJJG

I have had my new 2006 EXL since June 30, 2006. I live in Las Vegas and do a fair amount of city driving. Even on freeways, it is like surface street driving because of the construction that goes on all year.

On a tank full of gas, I have been averaging around 300-330 miles. Sometimes I have gone up to 360 miles as well. When I fill up, I usually top it off with 20-21 gallons. So the average is anywhere between 15-18 miles.

Hope it helps with some comparison.

after a year of keeping data, my 2006 4wd gets 20.015mpg overall, with a low of 17.213 and a high of 24.593.

if I had kept track, I probably did 60/40 highway.

I trust you know the advertised capacity is 20.34 gallons?

And if you're putting in 21 gallons, you may be damaging the charcoal cannister that's part of the emission control system.
