Question 86 Honda Accord starting problem

I am having trouble with my honda. Yesterday when I was driving it I noticed I was having trouble accelerating. I could feel the gears not shifting well. I can feel them hesitating and being slugish. Then this morning I couldn't start it, it would crank and then stop. I didn't press it further because I did not want to damage anything.

History: On Friday (one week ago) my car was broken into and my radio was stolen-so maybe there were problems with the electricity because of that? Maybe if it had anything to do with the main relay. A theory, but I am not sure why it would be acting up a week later. Theory #2 my gas cap was lost on the same day (maybe by them I am not sure) And I wasn't able to get one till 5 days later, unfortunatly it also rained cats and dogs (the hardest of this year) for the past few days, and the door that should be closed over where the tank opening is (not the door gaurding the opening of the actual tank itself but the door piece of the actual car) is broken so that there is a gap and I am thinking the other possibility is that there might be water in my tank.

I am not sure, but I am trying to narrow down what might be happening so that I can get it fixed seeing as it is my main mode of transportation.

any thoughts would be helpful
