Cycling will undoubtedly make you skinnier. It is THE best exercise I have found so far. We have a commute to work challenge up here in the Seattle area in May and I rode 842miles last year in that month alone.
I will try to top that this year.
I have yet to ride in any big rides but hope to do so soon. With 3 kids and a wife that doesn't ride it is hard to get away for a day to ride, plus the weather is crap now anyways.
