Damn, they noticed ...

You are right, after last week's problems, the database got corrupted a bit, and I'm not too sure how to correct the problem.

However, here is some good news. I just purchased a brand new server. This baby is much much faster (Dual Xeon with 1G ram for those tech-savy). I will be migrating all sites to it in the next 4 weeks. I hope that during migration the problem will fix itself.

admin.

Now that we're on a new server, and the new posts counter is still busted, let's have a contest to see how we can get admin's attention to fix it. I tried the direct approach, the subtle approach, the PM approach, and as you see above, the disgruntled contributor approach, and I'm out of ideas.

The counter works on our sister sites. Where's an Equal Rights Amendment when you need one.

How about the humorous approach???

Be careful what you ask for, though...

I am just waiting for the inevitable...."cheesy counters on the Honda Pilot site" and the inevitable comparison to the cool counters on the Subaru Legacy or Honda Accord site.

I do miss the quantify your addiction aspect to the site though.

What happened to counters is this:

At some point a few weeks ago, our database got corrupted. It got corrupted bad. I was able to salvage all the posts, except there are a few posts that are still corrupted and cause errors when performing specific queuries on them. That's why I had to remove the counter of the "new posts since your last visit".

Right now I don't want to spend too much time on it (as there are other priorities like coming up with a good backup strategy, etc), but once I get some free time, I'll look at some alternative ways of getting the counter to work.

Hey, I just noticed that any reference to points has disappeared from the site. Cool. Thanks, admin.

Any idea how many points that guy racked up before the points counter went away?

Not 100% sure, but the last time I looked closely, it was like 1800 or so...??? But don't hold me to that -- it's just a WAG!!! Not too shabby for only posting less than 10 times.
