Default Archiving Your Private Messages

I have had repeated problems with people trying to send me private messages and they get the message that my Inbox is full. I will go in and delete a few messages to make room but the next time they send a message they get the same message so I go in and delete more.

I just spent over a half an hour going through every message in my inbox and deleting what I didn't want to save and a few that I would have liked to save.

The longer I stay on this board the worse this problem will get.

Has anyone come up with a good way to archive those messages. The only idea I have is to cut and paste the text into another document and then add who it was from and when it was sent. This will be time consuming and tedious. I'm hoping one of you has discovered a better way.

So it has nothing to do with size then? Just how many messages are saved? Is there an easy way to know how many you have or do you just have to count? And if it is purely by count then I'm puzzled why deleing about 5 messages this morning didn't solve the problem.

I understand the need to have some limitation on this. I would of course not mind having more room but I will eventually use up what ever the quota is. I need to find a good way of off loading them from the forum.

Dunno.

Dunno.

Dunno but I think you have to count 'em (couldn't figure out another way after clicking on whatever was clickable)

Dunno but did you check your SENT ITEMS folder if you are saving sent PMs they probably count against the 70.

Total guesses on all of those answers. No charge.

Thanks for cutting me such a deal. I assume that messages in your sent folder count against you and look there for stuff to delete first because I know what I said, its the info from the other folks that I want to keep.

The reason I'm researching this particular minor problem on this great forum is that I feel guilty when people go through the trouble of typing up a message for me and then can't send it presumably because of my lack of diligence in keeping enough space available.

florida_guy and I have determined that items in the SentItems folder count toward the max number of PMs (70).

So, if you're doing housekeeping (or ultimately need to) be sure and take a peek in there if you're saving Sent messages.

You can disable saving copies of everything you send via PM (in the SentItems folder) by disabling that option in your control panel.

There is a vBulletin hack that we're doing to www.audiokarma.org that allows you to save your private messages directly to your hard drive. I run the same vB release as this site.

Details here:

New question re Private Messaging, or maybe it's more of a comment:

Other than sending a "Test" message, I suppose there's no way to determine somebody's PM folder is full BEFORE you type up your message and try to send it. It would be nice if somehow your message could be saved so you can try to send it later, instead of retyping it.

florida_guy: Instead of counting, when you log in to honda-pilot.org and click on the forums link, then scroll to the very bottom, you should see your total PM box message count:
