I can tell you that I just went though this process using a 3 x 3/4" MDF spacers to allow depth for an MTX TR4510-04 sub with 4.8543 depth and the right panel no longer fits (can you say pissed?).

I would LOVE to hear from the guy who used a 3" spacer...how the heck did the panel fit after that? The mounting clip located just below the sub requires ~2" to be secured.

Getting ready to tear it back out...thats a lot of silicone between layers.
