I've been looking at the Explorer spec V Pilot V Flex as well.
My sense is that the price of the much narrower Flex has been pushed up to clear market space for the Explorer. The Edge sits below and over the Explorer pricewise. The Flex being more Minivanish, attracts a different type of customer to the Explorer.
Chassis of the Flex and Explorer is proven. The Haldex AWD system is proven and used on Fords here and in the EEC, Volvos, VW/Audis and countless other cars.The Explorer engine and auto box are proven. In so many ways the Explorer reminds me of the Taurus X/Freestyle, but with a much more macho outlook on life.
Yeah I like the Explorer. Much better styling than the current Pilot.
No I wont sell my Pilot for one. The Pilot is nicely run in and gives me no cause for concern. But if the Pilot was totalled....and the Explorer was available at dealerships, I could be really tempted if I was staying in the SUV/Xover buying mode.
There is also part of my that would go back to the 2WD Station wagon with snow tires....Yeah I miss my VW...
