First of all, when you try to turn it on, always make sure the monitor is on first. Every computer expects to see a powered monitor at bootup. Does the box do anything? Does it start "breathing"? Does the hard drive chunk away? Does the power light go on at all? Any beeps?

Even more likely than a bad power supply is a bad fan. Almost all new PCs sense the fan (electrically) on the mother board. Most will boot up without a fan and issue a fan fault error, but some may not boot at all. You don't want to run a computer very long without a fan. It would be bad.

Sounds like you're not initiated in computer diagnostics and repair. You have my sincerest sympathy. These things are infuriating. I wonder how most people manage.
sounds like you know more than that geek.very professional diagnosis.(the box, breathing, beeps, bad)
