Chicagoland home construction costs - Honda Pilot

I am currently living in a townhouse and am looking to move into a bigger house, specially as the little one grows up.

Looking at the cost of new/newer houses in the areas I want to be , its probably streching my budget a bit too much and I just cannot buy something I cannot afford. So I started looking into getting a home constructed.

Does you know what the construction costs are in this area. I know things vary a lot by the material etc but still a ball park figure would be nice. I did find this website : http://www.building-cost.net ..not sure how accurate the prices are in this....(if it is accurate then I will usrely go the route of getting a home constructed).

any input is appreciated...

Those figures are just estimate. Your construction cost will depend on the architectural blueprint and the cost of construction in your area($per sq.ft.). Any upgrades in materials will also add to the standard construction cost.

right I understand that... I am just looking for a ballpark $ per sq ft

I say that is a bit low, but not bad.

I would put a 15% to %20 fudge factor on based on my house and what it cost to build.

so around $100 per sq ft for a average (plan, material etc) house

Remodeling/new construction usually cost a little bit more due to labor cost.

You may have to have work done on the 1st floor walls to support the second floor, so that may up the price a bit.

There's always additional foundation work and reinforcement to carry the additional weight of the 2nd floor and to meet the new building code in my professional opinion.
