How did this board come into existence? You have the three main players in different areas: who made "first contact" with whom??? (Just curious...)

In late 2000, I've started acuramdx.org. At that point, Tim became our sponsor. A little bit later TheWorm came on board and became our main moderator.

In mid 2002, I've started this wonderful board. Tim continued to sponsor, and both Tim & TheWorm continued to moderate. I would be lost without them

Hey Admin,

This board is way cool, but what do you and The Worm get out of it? Especially since I think you both have MDX's.

Kick backs from Tim? Parts discounts? Just curious.

You know what would be cool, that map above with a dot for each member's home zip/postal code. What do you think? Bigger question, who can do it?

That would be pretty neat. Sort of like this map of model rocket launch sites in the US.

Definitely can be done, but the info needs to be gathered first since zip codes are not readily available for any of the users here... it would just be very time-consuming since there are 2661 members (as of Mar 7, 2003) on this board!

What if we added a zip code field to the Profiles page? It's only one additional data element but it could be used to feed a mapping program. Once that is done it's only a matter of announcing the zip code entry field to the members.

Not a huge deal from the programming side at all.

What about our Canadian neighbors? I have to admit though, I don't know diddly about their zip code system (letter number letter space number letter number) and how it's mapped to the provinces or what-have-you....

Default Canadian Postal Code

Canada's Postal Code is more granular than the US Zip Code. In Canadian metropolitan areas, the postal code sometimes represents just one side of the street on one block. A mapping program, like Microsoft MapPoint for instance, has Canada's Postal Codes geo-coded.

I don't get anything except the unmitigated joy of wielding my power to modify, delete, and ban . And Daniel's "private" email address where I send him messages like "Uh, the site is broken".

The original thinking, of course, was that since the Pilot's related to the X, it'd make sense to have some X'ers over here to identify issues and provide some help solving problems -- assuming the cause & solution would be similar. In some cases, that's been true (early throttle cable bracket) but in most it hasn't (window scrunch, click from right rear).

I got (and still get) a lot out of the X site...tips, tricks, maintenance tips (never changed the oil on any car in my life til now), accessory ideas, lighter wallet from all the accessory ideas.

Along with the community and friendships that have emerged (including local meets). It's fun to "give back" and ensure that sorta thing continues. Hell, I'm addicted to the place...might as well add some value while I'm surfing (wisecracks and comments will be dealt with appropriately ).

Well, there's a city and state for most people in the VIN Table. That would be a place to start. Mapblast, MapQuest, etc sites can map that into a spot on a map.

Warning: be careful what you volunteer for.
