Question Forum Posting Etiquette for piloteers.org

Should I post a reply in a existing old thread about an issue I am having or start a new thread about the same issue?

I am befuzzled because last time I posted a current issue I was having in an old thread, keeping what I feel most people consider to be one of the main rules of forum etiquete, that being; "Search the other posts to see if your topic is already covered." User Rocky publicly chastised me and called me a troll for bringing up old stuff.

I always thought being able to search and find all info about a topic in a thread or 2 to be best vs. having to wade though multiple duplicate threads, but after Rockys rant maybe Piloteers.org would rather just have a high new post count regardless if it duplicates existing conversations.

I have never been a troll just a Pilot owner with questions about my vehicle so where should I post? ...old existing subject match or start new?

In my way of thinking, the number one issue is that of first doing a search for an existing thread on a particular problem. Then, should you decide to start a new thread (because your problem is somewhat different and/or the initial thread is quite old or lengthy to read) at least reference the other thread as a courtesy to the Forum Marshals.

BTW, I'm going to move this thread to the proper area.

Rocky is a valuable member, but may be a bit sensitive about trolls...

Anyway, don't take it personally.

Thanks, you picked up on my weird feelings about it. Not sure why he would be overly sensitive here, this site is clean and has been since I started coming here in 2002 (bought pilot oct 2002). Site has always been a great place to just get information to help me with my vehicle from other pilot owners and enthusiasts. I guess I should just let it go and accept that different people come to forums for different reasons. I am sure he is a good mechanic, he seems to give very traditional mechanic type answers, and thats a good perspective to have. I like to get to the root of the problem and the solution as fast as possible. Letting go....Why am I craving a cold one now?!

Forums are made for posting, post away. The internet has a lot of users and no matter what some people take exception. This forum is quite polite but I have to admit my personal pet peeve is duplicate posts.
