Are we going to have a new section for the 09 Pilot like AcuraMDX.org has separate sections for the 2001-2006 and 07+.

Just Wondering

I'm kinda thinking it may be a good way to go, but welcome input from all the forum members.

While were at it, perhaps we should limit some of the Off Topic - Current Events threads as well. I wonder at times what others think when they visit our GREAT forum and the first thing they read is some of the "discussions" between a handful of our members. Much of what is posted in that area of our forum would be better handled off-line, IMNSHO.

You mention the MDX site. I was just over there lurking in the Off-topic area (they do NOT have a Current Event section) and it was so refreshing to read some threads that are actually friendly in nature.

I don't see where it adds much value.

There is more the same then different given the existing forum categories.

Group Buys
Performance
Comparisons
Polls
Gallery
Detailing
Accessories
Problems
Classifieds
Maintenance
Audio & Electronics
Tires and Wheels

I just found and joined this site/forum a few days ago when researching '09 news. A section just for 2nd gen Pilots would be just what I'm looking for. Been a long time poster at odyclub and ridgelineownersclub. Can't wait to pick up a Pilot, although I'm waiting for the diesel, and be an active member here too. The wait for the diesel is killing me but at least my dad is buying an '09 soon so I'll live vicariously thru him. Nice site btw.

Several of the forums I am on are sectioned off and it seems to work well. In several of the major categories you list above, there will be inevitable differences between the current Pilot and the 2009 Pilot.

Is it possible to contact the moderator of the MDX site to see how the division went initially for them, and how things have been since the division? That might give us some more insight into the pros and cons.

One site I visit regularly is the MercedesShop Shop Forum. That site covers all Mercedes models, and it is generally not split up at all (there are only very broad categories like 'diesel,' 'trucks,' and 'pre-1979 models'). It makes for an interesting experience because there are drastic differences between the many models over the past three decades. If you use the Search function you can generally find what you want, there are a lot of users out there who do not search when it comes to forums. I guess that means that I lean towards splitting it up...

I think we could add a forum for Gen 2 specific issues, but if you read almost any of the threads you find information that is valuable to either gen.

I would support a split between the 03-08 and 09 and beyond models.

It may not appear obvious thing to do today, but in a year or two when the problems between the two vehicles are more apparent it will be very difficult to split out.

I'm also in favor of reducing the number of sections as they overlap and losing the current events section.

I agree on reducing the number of forum.
Still confused about how the Gen change affects any of the forum except maybe "PROBLEMS"?
Even things like "Accessories", "Audio & Electronics" and "Tires and Wheels" cover a lot of aftermarket issues that are not Gen specific.

I'm open for ideas, but for starters, how about:
Group Buys - No Change (Tim may suggest otherwise)
Performance - No Change
Comparisons - Split
Polls - No Change
Gallery - No Change
Detailing - No Change
Accessories - Split
Problems - Split
Classifieds - No Change
Maintenance - No Change
Audio & Electronics - Split
Tires and Wheels - Split

As for the Current Events section, it has been abused way too much and turned into a bashing area with "not very subtle" personal attacks commonplace. As I mentioned above, it does not present a very good first impression of our site when people stop by for info on the Pilot. If it continues to be abused, I will recommend we close it down.

I could see losing the regional forums. To litttle use to retain.

Another option is KISS. Use a setup like the MDX site that has a Category of "Model Specific Discussions" and under that we would have a forum for "2003-2006 Pilot" and a second one for "2009 Pilot".

The bulk of the posting would still take place in the "General" Category forums and only the year specific would be in the new Category.

We can try it for a while and add/modify as required.

Thoughts please.

(I have created the setup described for review, although it is still locked from posting)

I would like to see how many people are in favor of unlocking the 2003-2008 and 2009 sections of this forum. I am also wondering if anyone has any better ideas?

Well, since no one seems to have any other ideas, I'm going to go forward with the most basic approach for the Model Year Specific area.

I'm moving the applicable 2009 threads and the 2003-2008 section will populate itself as time goes on.

Let the fun begin!

I agree that the Current Events section is abused a lot by a few people who frequently insult each other and deride and misrepresent the views of others with little interest in understanding, appreciating, or politely discussing alternative views.

Before closing it down, I would first recommend suspending offenders but if that doesn't work, or if it's too much work, please just close it down. Some people never learn I guess.

BTW, as a historical note, the MDX site also used to have a Current Events section with some lively and very interesting discussions, but a very small number of cranks and extremely opinionated and rude people ruined it for everyone else. I wish some of those great discussion were archived somewhere but it seems they were deleted.

Thanks for all your work keeping this site going, ye olde farte!
