Default TPMS may lead to your Pilot being boosted.

Wondering if this affects ALL models or just Touring?

Link indicates that any car with TPMS has the potential to be hacked as would any electonic device that has a communication component.

Oh snap! A hacker is going to make my TPMS light turn on and get me when I pull over to see if I have a flat. Stupid scare tactics, no one is hacking your TPMS or your GPS or any of that other stuff. Your not that interesting and have nothing that cool for a thief to go to those extremes.

LOL.

Of course they forget the obvious next step in trying to create a story. Once in control of your car, they can hack your telephone, which is connected via bluetooth, your Ipod....

I heard that wrapping your Pilot in Tin-Foil prevents the signals from getting through.......

Is it 'way off', maybe but I can just imagine the cottage industry of vendors springing up to provide vehicle related antivirus software, spyware, malware protection and scrambling, debugging and cloaking devices so you can travel the galaxy far and wide in super stealth mode.

Now where is my tricoder?

Seeing as how every new car sold in the US since 2007 (and some cars before that) are equipped with TPMS in one fashion or another, the Pilot is just as likely to get "hacked" as anything else on the road.

This is a non-issue.

It's amazing to me how basic misconceptions still exist about the GPS system, as in the printed article. Your on board GPS receiver doesn't transmit anything, and if there is a "conversation" it is one-sided with the satellites doing all the talking. If you hook up to a cell phone or other transmitter,e.g. OnStar, then you have external locating possibilities.

IIRC, the "official" mandated year was 2008.

Wow, really? Thanks. Iread the link as well.

my question was whether there was a difference in the TMPS in the Touring vs non-touring models.

Thanks for adding nothing to the thread though.

Sorry I missed that specific question in your post.... ...ALL models of vehicle TPMS systems were the concerns mentioned in the article. But to answer the question in your second post...the TPMS RF technology is the same as the LX EX/L but the Touring models will display the tire pressures in the MID (Multil Information Display) and has an additionall alert for a low pressure tire in the MID.

You know, I never knew that......why the heck would the government mandate that??

I see absolutely no reason for a mandate there. Perhaps someone can enlighten me on this. A nice feature, sure.....but mandatory???

Ignoring the Firestone fiasco, that probably had something to do with it, it also became mandatory in the EEC about the same time.
