Back in the old days of the board, we used to share a lot of stories and personal things....and I wrote a story last night that I'd like to share with all of my family here on Piloteers.
Hopefully you'll get a little heartwarming entertainment in this short read while you're having the morning coffee ![]() A sad old camper.....A Kamakiri story of 2010 - AudioKarma.org Home Audio Stereo Discussion Forums |

Now that looks like a project. Great story and post!
I cannot wait to load up my family and go camping once the kids get older.

Great story Tim. Camping is a fantastic family activity, and we do as much as we can. We used to rough it in a tent, but a three years ago the wife and I bought a travel trailer. I had a guy tell me once that for all the money I spent on it, I could spend a lot of nights in hotels near a resort. Obviously, he doesn't understand the value in sitting around a camp fire with family and friends, or exploring the wilderness with your little ones. That sort of time is invaluable in my opinion.
Good luck with the restoration.

My wife and I gave up on tent camping after a couple unpleasant times and then finally a flood and storm that ruined our tent. Pop-up camper here we come!
I look forward to seeing the pics of your progess!

Right now, it's triage. The exterior just needs some new lighting, a coat of paint, and a couple of windows replaced to make it "look" good. The interior is a mess, and will require replacement of all of the wood below window level on the door side, new flooring, and a new ceiling. As well, the rear bed frame was taken out, presumably for use as a storage shed.
I've done ceilings on these before, and it's not a bad job....I use textured white bathroom wallboard. The roof trusses on campers are usually wafer thin, and I brace them with strips cut from a 2 x 4, about 1/2" thick or so. To get the correct look of the finish on a camper is easy. They usually have a thick, orange-peely surface to them, which can be achieved with Rustoleum and a roller. On a sunny day, the paint levels out nicely and gives it a brand new appearance. |

No, but every time I go to a junkyard, my legs get torn to shreds by bumpers trying to wrap themselves around them as I'm walking.....they scream PLEEEEEEASE take me home! Fix me! Make me run again!
(sigh) That's why I'll have my old van until the day I die.....I couldn't bear to see it crushed

Tim,
You almost make me believe in karma. ![]() You have quite a talent for restoration and fatherhood.

Sir,
You complete projects like this at a rate that makes most of us look VERY bad.

New floor, ceiling, wiring both lights and interior, new lamps, new walls, paint, wheel bearings, tires, resealed the roof, new windows.....all in 6 weeks. It's all about late nights, and purposely backing yourself into a corner in order to do what you set out to do.
All she needs is a set of hubcaps ![]() But this is only part of what I got done in that timeframe.....I also repaired 2 snowblowers, worked on the house, redid the flower beds, finished the bathroom wallboard, and put 4 new tires on the van. I'm pooped! |
