Default Trying To Go TROPICAL, 1ST TIme LEAVING the GOOD OL' USA!! HELP PLEASE!!

Greetings ALL!!

AFTER 4 GRUELING years, Wifey has graduated and now has the DREAM career job!! She starts in about 2 weeks.. but I want to reward her and also just have some fun because once she starts work.. WHO KNOW's when some relief will come again..

We would love to do something tropical, think blue water on the white sand beach..

We have, HOWEVER never even so much as left the country before and have NO CLUE/IDEA on how to begin..

TRIED google but man that stuff is overwhelming..

Looking for tips and advise on how to PROPERLY and SAFELY do this!!

Originally was thinking 3 day/night trip..but seems hard to find that kind of availability..

So expanded our travel dates, from

Sept 4'th thru Sept 10, leaving early the 4'th and returning in the afternoon at the latest on the 10'th...

I was looking at the Bahamas, or Aruba, or Bermuda, like I said anything tropical.. shoot EVEN Hawaii..

We are located in the Chicago area..so O'Hare is where we would leave..

So how about it fella's, can anyone offer any input and or advice on how to do this?

a Travel to the Islands 101 if you would?

any tips, input, ideas and recommendations, gREATLY appreciated!!

let me know..

oNe

p.s. I have budgeted about $1000 for this but can go over a tad bit..not much tho and would like to keep it around $1000, I would be okay with leaving Friday 9/4 and returning 9/9

Bermuda is great! It is incredibly clean and safe and even though it is WAY north of the Bahama's it shares their weather as it is plunk in the middle of the Gulf Stream.... real warm water.

You can't rent a car in Bermuda but you can rent motor scooters which are a great way to see the island.

I'd suggest you look for either a hotel or cottage to rent in South Paget... which is 10 miles from the city of Hamilton and within minutes from outstanding beaches. Horseshoe Bay is my very favourite for snorkeling.

You will find NO fast-food chains on Bermuda except for a lone KFC in Hamilton. But there's lots of places to eat inexpensively.

Evening's restaurants expect diners to dress up a bit so bring a sports jacket. I love Bermuda for it's British feel, the locals have a relaxed air about them... everything runs a little slow in Bermuda, it's called "Island Time".

Keep in mind that Bahama's and Bermuda lie in the path of Tropical storms and hurricanes that are possible until end of October, so there's always the possibility of unsettled weather.

With your time-frame and budget I'd just hit Vegas for 3 nights. You want tropical they got it

I've never used cheapcaribbean, but heard about them and they seem legit...
This is also a good website to try

What would you like to do? Snorkeling, scuba, sightseeing?
We went to Playa del Carmen (near Cancun) once to all inclusive resort and had plenty of fun...

I assume you both have passports. You will need them if you want to leave the country. If you don't have them, you can go to the post office and apply.
