I have an infant graco snug and ride that fits well in my 08 pilot, however, I'm trying to move to the next step car seat for up to 35 Ibs. I tried the cosco alpha omega elite and it is just to big to have facing rear no matter where I put it. Husband is 6.4 tall. Any suggestions for a smaller seat to fit the pilot that you like well for the toddler stage? Thanks.

how old is your child(ren)? if you just have one and is in the toddler stage ...why not put him/her forward facing? as long as he/she is both 1 yr old and 20lbs it is okay. this should allow the seat to be placed anywhere in the car with plenty of room. if it has to be rear facing can you not put it in the middle seat and not have it affect the front seat position? i realize there probably is no latch in the middle but there is nothing wrong with using the belt. that would be the safest place int he vehicle for it anyway....away from all airbags and plenty of crumple room. i work for the fire dept in my home town and we put these in everyday for citizens as part of our training is becoming car seat techs. my wife and i have two daughters (21 months and 10 months) soon to be three daughters in dec. we plan to put our newborn in the middle rear facing and our two older on either side forward facing.

I had 2 Britax Marathons in my Pilot, one forward and one rear-facing. I had the rear-facing one behind the passenger seat, where it was easier to reach for the dropped binky or toy while driving (oops, did I just type that), plus give me more leg room (6-0) than my wife (5-5).
Remember, it's only a couple of months that they're rear facing and hogging that much room. My two are still in their car-seats, and will be until they reach 65 lbs or 59" tall, which ever comes first.

I mentioned this seat recently in another thread, but I'll give it another plug. Check out the Sunshine Kids Radian 65 car seat. Its compact and very well built. Unfortunately, we didn't discover it until our boy was facing forward, so I can't speak for how much room it'll save facing rearward. However, it definatley save some space to the front and sides when facing forward compared to a Safety First seat that it replaced.

My child is 6 months and still needs to go rear facing. The seat that I had purchased does go in the back rear facing as long as both seats are pushed almost to the front, which really isn't going to work for us. I had heard Britax fits but also maxi cosi priori. thanks for the feedback.

I'm 6'5" and we have a 9 month old in a Graco convertible that is right now rear facing in the middle of the back seat. I have to bring the drivers seat forward by about an inch or two so it doesnt rub while driving.

Research is now showing that kids should continue to face the rear of the vehicle longer than previously thought--to a minimum of 18 months. Ideally, kids should rear face as long as possible until they've outgrown the limits of their convertible car seats. See here, especially the Related Links section.
One newer model that may work for you is The First Years True Fit. It rear faces to 35lbs then forward faces to 65lbs, so you'll get a lot of use out of it. The advantage of this seat in your situation is that the top headrest portion of the seat is removable to make for more room in the back seat. Granted, this piece does have to be reinstalled once your child reaches a certain height, but by that time he/she will be old enough to forward face or to have the seat be installed more upright. It is generally well liked and I haven't heard of any complaints from owners. ![]() The First Years True Fit Hope this helps! |
