Found this interesting from both a scientific and economic perspective.

I remember when "fructose" was touted as being better for you because it as "more complex" carbohydrate.

Also:

“So starting in the 1980s, because the cost of sucrose is kept artificially high because of federal policy, everybody started using high fructose corn syrup. As a cheap substitute for sucrose, it costs about a third as much as sucrose did. . . . "

Can anyone say yet another "Unintended consequence of government interference in the free market?"?
