I'm thinking about bidding on a job there (currently in Memphis, TN which is a crap hole! - well actually I live south of Memphis in North MS, but I still have to commute here). Looking into sales position with my current company, but just wanted to see if anyone lived there and could comment. Seems to be a pretty nice place, but the incidence of rape and murder seem to be fairly high compared to the suburbs I am in now. NOTHING compared to Memphis, but I was hoping someone could comment on it as far as cost of living, things to do, whether you woould move there, etc.
thanks!

I don't live there but I have been on multiple occasions and the parts I have seen are nice. It is a big college town (UK is in Lexington) That is probably why some of the crime is as high as it is. I would probably live there..it is definitely nicer & cleaner than Memphis. I don't know about cost of living though.

I had to go to Fort Knox on business quite a few years back. I don't remember much about the area but it seemed nice, IIRC. Actually, I can only recall two specific things: (1) We found a hole-in-the-wall restaurant that served the best blackened salmon I ever had. (2) Driving along one of the main highways, I recall seeing nothing but mobile home dealers on one side of the road and gun shops on the other.

I spent about 20 years in Lexington. Its gotten a little bit bigger since, but still is a college town (UK). Nice blend of old and new. Even though small you get a lot of things you find in the larger cities as far as restuarants, arts, etc. One thing, they do have a local wage tax (at least did) in addition to the state tax. Seemed like it was 1.5%. David

I don't mind it being smaller - I like smaller. It will just be hard to leave all the friends and family here, but with the wife not working I have to try and get more income coming in. As it is, even with 4% raises I'm moving backwards every year it seems like. We plan on moving away from this area anyway because I foresee it getting worse even down where we are. Just looking for someone to tell me how much they LOVE Lexington to help ease my mind. Thanks to all for your responses!
